And vote for whom? The almighty American dollar that (all) politicians are so fond of? Replace one monger for another? Jesus...people in this country better start waking up and stop taking sides on the political front. Those people FEED on that kind of response and the only they succeed. 'Ya know what I'm currently willing (as a tax payer) to pay a politician? Nothing. It's a public service job. We hired you because you promised us certain things and 'you were the person to get it done.' Now that you haven't and you voted yourself a raise I'm supposed to re-elect you? Fuck off. Use your own damn money to get elected; you have enough. If not...let me run. You didn't fulfill your promises during your service...shit, go to a bar one night with your friends and see how many promises you keep after 13 shots (ahem...Ted Kennedy...ahem). I guess the truism is just...money won't make you happy. The more you have the more you want; the less you have the more you want. Either way, no one is happy. I don't have the immediate answer but I DO know we have to drop the facade that any one politician is going to 'save the day'. I listen to the current democratic hopefuls speeches and they're a farce. I've listened to 8 of them and they're like a broken record: "I'll save the day! My opponent sucks!" Please. All of this and more; news at 11:00.
I saw the episode of 'Law and Order' last night where there was a hung jury at the end for a conviction of murder 2 on a defendant who obviously committed the crime. The assistant DA could of had a slam dunk with manslaughter 1 but continued the case anyway at the discontent of the DA. The defendant was a decorated veteran whose son had died in a conflict and killed a 'pacifist' who degraded both the veteran and his son....so the defendant killed him (supposedly out of rage; temporary insanity if you will). The ending statement by the DA was priceless to the assistant DA..."You made the mistake of having too much of a blue collar jury. The ones who get out of jury duty are also the ones who got out of active duty." Being in the military myself once, I thought this statement was rather pragmatic.
'ya know...Planet of the Apes wasn't too bad of a film in itself; if were a 'new' film, however since it piggy-backed on a true epic it just didn't measure up. Too bad, it's actually a story about humanity and how delicate it is with the interaction of time and space. I think that's what Tim was trying to hit on, but failed.
It IS bad for statistical data because he only interviewed 1171 people (businesses). Do you really believe that's a good sampling plan? How many computer users are out there? That seemed to be the most acurate data the poster submitted and it is insufficient at that.
Is interviewing 1171 people (or businesses) really statistically accurate? If you're really good at what you do you should know that a decent sampling plan is critical to the study. I could interview 2 people and deduce that 100% of the survey indicates that MS has the best OS, according to a survey. Maybe you're right, but the study seems skewed, in my opinion.
Fine...than let them flounder. At the end of the decade my money says they'll still be the top of the heap though. The profit margin will just be slimmer.
You forget the ground in which the corn grows. The soil is not an infinite source of energy for the plants growing in it. That's why you'll often see (driving through 'corn' country') several hundred acres of corn and another several hundred acres of blank land. The farmers are cycling the land to make it more productive. Either way, it's still a finite source.
Oh great...I can see the headlines now: "Man in downtown Brooklyn claims he was growing pot to power family tractor". Or maybe he just has eye problems.
I know you were only joking about the cruise ship remark; however I served on a nuclear sub where certain members of the crew had limited access to the engineering spaces. Can you imagine the security implications involved with a non-military ship that is nuclear powered? Not to mention the cost? The US has lost 2 nuclear submarines....neither due to nuclear accidents. The former USSR has lost at least 3 for that reason. Putting these resources into the hands of the public sector will be a disaster at best and I for one am not willing to accept that risk so I can afford a cheaper cruise. I especially won't accept it in a car (as you state). I'm all for nuclear power but only as a power alternative to what we currently have for massive, land-based power distribution grids.
That's pretty sad when you're laughed at by basement mongering gaming nerds because of the brand name they choose to buy....but I wouldn't own a Dell either for the same exact reason!
I always thought that the point of being at home was to be away from work. If you're doing that much work away from your place of employment than you're either underpaid, overpaid....or a moron. My apologies if you're self-employed. BTW....WinXP is NOT a good gaming platform; Win98 was and still is much better.
hmmm....and where do the unions fit into your logic? America may be content with unions paying $40.00 per hour for an 8th grade graduate to build motorcycles but I'm not. THAT'S why companies are out-sourcing. Unlike your winded explanation of the tax system and economics, my original post still stands.....I and my community need a job. If that entails giving a tax break to a large corporation to set up shop here so be it. That may change in the future but at least I'll be able to provide a future for my son and daughter that I didn't get. After that it's all semantics.
It really depends on the entire contract. It is within a judge's jurisdiction to nullify the entire contract if even one clause is unreasonable or unenforceable. That's why I love to see 10 page contracts....chances are that at least one clause is ridiculous enough to void the whole damn thing. Lawyers in this arena are just trying to out-think themselves and it's really quite funny; until the contract is actually binding.
Excuse me? Do you invest in a 401k or some form of IRA? Every time you dump money into an investment account you give SOME business some money. Please.

Even under those presumptions....SOMEONE is still accountable.

Waves from the ocean still wear away the biggest boulder to but a stone. Patience, Grasshopper, patience.
We all know this already...Google is equal to God. If Google can find it it must be true.

And according to the post, you are statistically unimportant, so go away.

Audi's 'just work'? Not in my experience with them. And just TRY to get them serviced, even for routine maintenece. It will cost you an arm and a leg.
It MAY have?
One could reasonably use your argument for programmers as well.

I think 'Nikto' was the important part of Klaatu's statement.

"It got disappeared..."; I love it...
"....they are just TOO expensive...."; sorry, that error just drives me nuts!

The only 'home grown' jobs in my current community consist of barber shops, bars, a gas station and a McDonalds. Which do you want to work for?
