Way to cherry pick his arguments. I'm just going to leave this here, Commerce Clause. This give us federal rights to navigate waterways among other things. It imposes an obligation on landowners that are adjacent to waterways, in fact several obligations.
I routinely get notices from my insurance company listing the amount charged, the amount payed, and the amount disallowed (the discount). The difference is rarely as little as 15%. It's usually at least 30-40% and I have seen it as high as 90%. My wife had a test that was billed around $70 and the amount payed was something like $4.95. It's not uncommon to see the billed amount 10 times higher then the paid amount.
This is why it is impossible to negotiate your own bill, you have no idea what a procedure is worth, and good luck getting anyone to give you a price ahead of time.
From my experience, IT workers are worthless five out of six times. It takes luck and skill to find someone who is at the top of their game and willing to stay there. /especially since no one will pay for it...
Everything you said is true. Gov. jobs haven't been guaranteed for at least a decade. They are sweating budget shutdowns and the issue with IT, "Everything works great, what do you do all day?".
The gov used to be on the cutting edge, showing companies how to treat workers fairly, but those days are gone...
In your own post, you admit that you are better off making more money now, then if you were making 1/2 your money. I know you will say this is only because you do not game the system, even though it is not true. You pay sales tax on everything you buy off the internet and never tried to talk your way out of a speeding ticket. Everybody plays games, the people doing most of the stuff you are describing are shooting themselves in the foot. Nothing you do is going to change the way they operate and punishing everyone because of a few is simply not smart, compassionate, or rational.
As to your percentage points, you are only telling half the story: o you really think 50% of the population can pay for 98% of the governments spending? Do you even think that is fair?Yes, they can, and it is fair. This shows that 20% control 93%. I'm sure we can extrapolate that the top 50% control more then 98%. This is simply pay as you go.
I know your pain. I got married young and have multiple children. I make a good wage, but it doesn't go far. The hardest thing to do is stop judging yourself. If you need to file bankruptcy, DO IT, don't wait until your last dollar is gone, bankruptcy is expensive. Plus, immediately following bankruptcy you need to have cash on hand for every living expense.
Take advantage of any social programs you can find. Network with other people in similar situations at school or church. Don't let your pride get in the way of taking care of your family. Your last dollar is worth way more then your first dollar, guard it and leverage anything you can to help you keep that last dollar from going away and forcing you to borrow.
Social programs, friends, family, don't be a mooch, but barter where you can and let people help where they are willing. Walk away from a bill if it is killing you. Even if you don't file bankruptcy, you can restructure your debts by talking to your lenders, if they won't play ball, make them sue you. Most of them won't, and if they do you can lay your story out for the judge and make reasonable payments. In 10 years, you will be golden. Just don't let your present problems ruin your life.
Nobody notices them for the most part. They are all over the city I work at. Alot of the new traffic lights use cameras to change from red to green instead of induction loops. The city has tapped into these as well as deploying their own cameras all over the place.
I manage Windows all day, every day. I deploy Windows workstations, push software (to windows), scan for viruses, store files on the local subnet, and troubleshoot the network, and manage my Windows Servers with my trusty Linux "servers" I have under the desk next to mine and at any other key network locations. I can provide a backup server, router, local file share, firewall, or network tap with a retired PC and Linux.
Linux is an essential tool for any competent Windows Admin.
The people at this high income level exist in a closed society. You can't get in if you are not born into it, or the victim of some extremely rare event. They can act however they want because they are a closed society. There are a series of filters in place to prevent their anti-social behavior from exposure to the outside world.
If there are 100 jobs that can be done by robots, 2 will be done by robots and 98 will be done by humans.
I say this based on my analysis of the jobs that can be done by automated scripts, which are essentially free, compared to a robot which costs money up front.
User's can't create groups in windows either. They could add individual accounts to each folders permissions, however in every company I've worked at this was discouraged, or disallowed. Users usually have read/write, but they could not modify permissions, otherwise they usually add people to their personal shared folder and forget about it. The proper way to do this would usually be to request a share or a group be created by the box's admin or root user.
The only reason I learned linux is because I like to play with computers and I can't afford to play with expensive proprietary stuff. So I mucked around with Linux and discovered how well it suited many of the day to day tasks I perform. I have always managed majority Windows, or all Windows networks. One of the first things I do at a new job, is find an old pc to setup as a headless linux server. It gives me access to a wealth of tools that are just not available on Windows, or if they are would blow my budget. I can ssh in, start a screen session, and pull those big downloads into my Samba share. I can sniff network traffic and look for arp problems. I can run a wiki to quickly document things. I also windows imaging from my linux box. I wouldn't know half the things I know today if I had never learned linux. Maybe that's why all these MS only admins seem like such halfwits to me.
probably not worthwhile to reply to an AC, but...
I have no problem with companies moving things overseas. However, I think there should be a pay to play clause. If you want in on our economy, you need to be part of it. The movement overseas is shortsighted and it will reverse and even out. It sucks if your affected personally, but life goes on. How many CEO's are moving to china?
You would never pay a tax if you are riding through a city and order something on amazon shipped to your home. The tax would be payed to the location you are having it shipped, presumably your home. It would support your government services.
As an aside, taxing the unrepresented is an American tradition. Check out the high tax rates on hotels and rental cars for an example.
Sales tax is just another way of funding the government. What it pays for varies by jurisdiction For example in Indianapolis, there is a 2% sales tax on prepared food just to pay for a Football stadium. How is that related?
Why do you care, are they too big to fail? If their business model is flawed, or based on their ability to exploit a legal loophole, they deserve to disappear.
Any government involvement into any industry causes costs to go up, never down.
Does this mean you are against contracting government services and government outsourcing, just curious. I am.
bzzt.. Incorrect.

Why does everybody think an accounting office is not factoring in these costs already? These guys know how to count money.
That's the old American Dream, the new one is personified by the Palin / Hannity / Jersey Shore / American Idol.
Seriously, what's the difference between Rush Limbaugh and The Situation?

Whoa, is Mitch Daniels in charge of Oregon too?
HFT is not like insider trading, it IS insider trading.
Twenty years ago, you could know 10 seconds before anyone else and it didn't mean squat, now you can leverage that knowledge.
Sounds like someone shouldn't be playing poker, since they don't know how to call a bluff...
Yeah, I agree. How many people do you know who could have most of their job replaced by a shell script.
I don't know what the future holds, but I do know it won't be efficient and it won't be a utopia.
