    I feel like I'm spamming this, but I hope it's useful. Try out MobaXterm. It's a much better terminal emulator then putty and it wraps up an Xserver and a graphical file browser like winscp.

    You might consider running local server that the kids connect to with ssh, or forwarded X sessions, or NX.
    One more thing to teach about and in my experience, most linux systems are accessed remotely.

    Grab a copy of MobaXterm, it's runs off a USB and gives you access to all the bash tools along with an Xserver and some other nice stuff. I used it alot when I was in a controlled environment.

    If your stuck on windows, and you haven't tried MobaXterm, your missing out. It's got an Xserver, cygwin, scp browser, etc., all baked in. There is an install version and a portable version.

    It's only free as in beer, but your already using windows.

    Unless your cleaning your logs, you'll see a pull backup authenticating to the system. This also means you have to trust your backup endpoint, I avoid pull backups for this reason, but a proper backup account shouldn't have access to trash your backup destination.

    I backed up my work laptop with borg and misunderstood the password protected a key-file, not the archive....

    My other backup missed all my dot files....

    pour some out for the lost data...

    At the very least, you should be using a 2nd cloud service for backup, like rsync.net or those guys that are always releasing hard drive stats, backblaze.

    My kids have google accounts that are custom domains. I can reset the password essentially at will.

    I simply said most prisoners aren't awful people? You think the US doesn't have a problem with locking up to many people?
    Is the roughly 5% of our population that has been incarcerated is disposable?

    The only long debunked theory I see in this thread is that family and friends increase recidivism. There is 40 years+ of evidence and studies that disprove this, but I guess it just "feels wrong" to you.

    Even higher security prisons, if people want to direct crime from prison; it seems like the perfect place to catch them.

    A factual statement, "people were relieved to have an an excuse not to spend alot of money", coupled with his social analysis.

    Newsflash: people in prison often come from poor families.

    These aren't feral cats, these are people. Do you think that "affluenza" kid should have been taken from his parents along with any siblings?

    This is basically what your proposing, that parents of criminals lose their parental rights. Most people in prison made mistakes or hard choices. The simple quantity of Americans locked up (vs other countries) makes the argument that these are all terrible people impossible.

    If a kid hits another kid, you punch them?
