    This is the lie being pushed. When pensions were fazed out, companies should have been required to add money to the employees current salaries. I'm not aware of this ever happening, salaries have been stagnant for so long that private sector work is on par or less then public sector salaries.
    This is by design and allows the wealthy to sow anger and drag down the public sector.

  4. nobody needs 4k video, I don't see it expanding past 10% of the viewing population. I'm talking about watching 4k video, not owning a device that is capable.

  6. POTS is available in almost every rural area, at mostly the same cost you pay in the city. There have been telephone fees that subsidize this for decades.

    It sounds like your parents area would be a priority under the new FCC plan, no mobile broadband or fixed broadband. They should applaud this since it will move areas like theirs to the front of the line.

    They are a free provider with a paid option, this seems to impact their free service which is understood by users to inject ads.

    Stick with a legitimate paid company, I use airvpn and have a referal in my signature. I've also had good luck with piavpn.

    I don't find that it hinders my memory much. I always had trouble navigating out of places once I'd gotten there. If I go somewhere afew times, I'll remember.
    Living in an urban area, I find Google Maps to be indispensable just because it routes me around traffic. I've had it show me new ways to get around places that were congested.

    If the price is fair, I prefer that to AT&T / Xfinity's requirement that you call every 6 months to get a new special if you want a reasonable price.

    I think it's more insidious that people tend to skew what they think is normal or even possible. If you interact with 100's of people daily, your going to see some weird stuff happen, things that only happen in extremely rare cases.
    The fact that you can go on youtube and see it happening to 10 people or hear of internet acquaintances who had it happen, will naturally skew your perception.

  18. I don't see anything out of the ordinary on that list opinionated people tend to be self righteous, condescending, and smug. I'v also seen posts indicating empathy and desire to help others. The constant barrages keep creimer on the defensive, so you'll naturally see more posts slanting towards the former.
    I enjoy creimer's input and hope he continues to participate int the slashdot community. If there was one thing I think he needs to learn, it's "don't feed the trolls", but I think he gets a kick out of it. Sometimes it's fun.

    It's pretty normal for outgoing kids to become shy once the pass certain milestones. It usually reverses itself, sometimes with a little effort. Often kids go back and forth between different extremes, it's part of the learning process.

    What do you consider the market rate? I see some as low as 1550 on apartments.com, which interestingly enough had a 1 bedroom in the 700 range, so seems like a scam.

    Sorenson makes a video chat device that works well, there is a version by D-link. However, you have to know the IP you are connecting to. I think Sorenson uses some sort of DDNS to track people, the dlink version doesn't have that.
    The Sorenson one is marketed to deaf people, I'm not sure if you can buy one. They give them out free to Deaf people through some sort of program, it allows them to sign to each other.

    Opt out of the advertising, that kicks you out of the program, you'll still see all those "juicy" points, but you can't use them.

    Verizon is always bothering me about their rewards program, I have afew thousand "reward" points that I can't use because I refuse to sign up for the program because of the privacy invasion it requires to participate.
    Off hand I can't remember exactly what I object to, but every time I think, I might it might be worth it I read the policy and think again.
