Elitists reflect the sort of people that are in this industry, though. Seriously - most of the members of the geek/nerd/programmer hierarchy got there because they spent hours and hours alone in their rooms, poring over books. For some reason, they feel that because they learned it without outside, maybe that gives them the right to look down on others that don't learn as well from reading Petzold as they do from talking to another person.
