  1. It would be good, but it was never going to be Uber that had integrity since they'd be DOA. Their whole business model depends on the 'we're not a taxi company' deceit.

Taxi companies hire employees, maintain and inspect cars, and generally monitor operations and handle logistics. They determine how many drivers they need and where to distribute them.

Just not true, which is why your analogy is crap and falls apart no matter how many times you repeat it :). A taxi company _may_ do these things, but it doesn't have to. Plenty of taxi companies simply run dispatch operations for contractors with their own vehicles - the drivers choose when to work, who to pickup, where to be (I can't speak for the US here). Even having an app for dispatch is nothing new - we've had that at our local taxi company for years. The only thing that's new is 'because internet, we deny liability....'

More specifically - why should Indians or anyone else think globally without thinking locally first? To me it just sounds like a mantra spewed out by those with other agendas. Honestly, fuck global until all people have complete and unlimited access to all markets - job markets, housing markets, free and unlimited travel and living opportunities without borders and hindrance. Only then can you talk such nonsense about jingoism.

If only Android would let you send the audio to bluetooth. My bluetooth speaker doesn't have an audio in socket and I'm not buying another one. (And yes, I know you need the headphones to act as an antenna, but that shouldn't prevent sending the audio to bluetooth. You can send the audio to the phone's speaker, but not to bluetooth).

Apart from that, I've never seen a phone with an FM chip that wasn't activated but maybe its lower end phones.

But is that actually any different than a person seeing the same thing? Its not like human vision (and visual interpretation) is foolproof. Plus if the majority of vehicles are autonomous they will all have the same reaction times and all the vehicles involved will stop safely.

I'd actually be more concerned that the new game for kids will be jumping onto busy roads and laughing as the vehicles all come to a halt. If I walk slowly in front of a regular vehicle I know there is a chance the driver could just run me over, but I doubt there will be a 'ram the fucker' override on autonomous vehicles.

Rather than selling it off (which the Tories will attempt), just operate it under exactly the same model as Channel 4. Publicly owned but commercially operated, and with the same remit it currently has. That seems to work pretty well for Channel 4 and can have equal guarantees as to its independence and character.

The main point is, if they just sell it off we will have permanently lost something of unique value just for some quick money. I don't see that as a good deal.
