I agree its an awful idea, but what really concerns me is that it probably doesn't have to be that successful for every fecker to give it a go and then every book will come wrapped in its own app.

Apart from the multimedia crap (and obviously the money/power play involved) there's really no reason for it to come in its own app. I mean is there any technical reason you can't release a chapter at a time on Kindle/Kobo/Nook/whatever?

Scary stuff. Makes me glad I don't live in a nation where I have to carry a gun when I go to bed. I can honestly say I have never felt that kind of ongoing fear for my safety and for that I'm honestly glad.

Genuine question - do you not see a need for society to do something about that ongoing, low level fear (I'm not saying what the answer would be)? Or are you happy having to take a loaded firearm to bed?

I'm not denying that some good may come out of it, but Gates and Zuck are not 'giving their money away' . They are investing it in a 'foundation' which they and their descendants retain control of. If they lost all their other money tomorrow they are still guaranteed an income (as Chairman/Chief Exec of the Foo Foundation) that would keep them in the lifestyle to which they are accustomed. And the power and influence that comes with that.
