According to Microsoft System Idle Process does obscure hardware related utilization - for instance without an offloading NIC one bit of network traffic utilizes 1 Mhz of CPU - may not seem like a lot, but if you max out your 1Gb NIC and your system seems slow you may know why (not to mention the disk thrashing and system overhead on an IDE or SATA system - as opposed to a SCSI system where the controller has processing on the controller.
This review comes at a nice time as I saw this book for the first time last night at B&N and my impression after my initial excitement at a cool idea about something that was a large part of my personal past to only open the cover and let out a cry of defeat as the layout showed it was destined for the bargain shelf and at $1 it would be too expensive.
Thanks for the review, but after the 2nd paragraph I already want the publishers of the book to refund the time spent on it. (And the time to write my reply would also be nice..)
Just a small point - Dick Cheney is our Vice President, not Secretary of Defense, that is Donald Rumsfield. I know it is hard to keep the rich old guys straight, but there is a huge difference between Vp and SoD
So tell me what is your definition of a Computer Nerd?
I have been a NetWork engineer for 10+ years now and additionally I have owned and operated a restaraunt and am famous in my neighborhood for my cuisine. 6 months ago I catered a party that people still talk about.
You may wish to remove your eyes from the glare of the screen and open them to the entire world that exists - the only thing better than a good PC chalange is satisfying the palates of 30 - 40 good friends from all walks of life and still hearing about it months later.
I can whole heartedly reccomend "Cooks Illustrated" it is a Bi-Monthly (6 issues / year) mag that features only cooking tips and tricks. The recipies are more informational on how to create the perfect (fill in dish here) that happen to have a recipie attached, it gives kitchen equipment reviews, helpful tips from others and the like - but best of all - absolutely NO ADS in the entire mag.
If you like the mag they publish every year's full set of mags in a hardcover book.
To tell if your dreamcast will play backups - those made before November 2000 should play backups, afterwards Sega changed the firmware and it becomes difficult.
The state of California has for years been collecting fingerprint data when issuing licenses. Lets just hope that these congress men have found a solution to the problems facing retinal scanning in anything but a controlled environment. Several years ago retinal scanners were installed in the capitan's lounge of an international airport with two way security (scans on entry and exit). The pilots would have a couple of drinks in the lounge and their retina would change enough to no longer be recognised as the same eye by the sanner and they were locked in! As a biometric solution the retinal scan was never reliable. Hopefully they have fixed the problems or too many people will not be able to reenter the country after international flights and cruise's that are already a hastle.

That is one of the most subtle and sweet April Fools pranks of all time.
Thanks
