That's not troll baiting... that's a simple sad fact.. why are you so pro piracy?

So that makes it okay to steal?

Think clearly. You really just want free music, don't you. You don't care about anyone's job or profit. You just want to justify to yourself that you're not a thief when you steal the next NSync or GayPop band you love.

I have news for you. It is stealing. It doesn't matter who it's from. And it does make you a thief. So be man enough to admit to that, and deal with the consequences or stop stealing people's work once and for all.

Well at last Slashdot makes a posting which highlights the loss of jobs and businesses that piracy causes. Of course that's only a small sector of the huge industry that is affected.

Nice to know slashdot is not as pro-piracy as it has been in the past. "The Man" isn't an unknown Goliath entity. It's your neighbour, your family member, your friend; everyone who has anything to do with the music industry. (ditto for movies)

I was delighted when I saw the news this morning. As a huge movie fan (sometimes snob) I know that movies like LOTR only come once or twice (if we're lucky) in a generation. I'm glad they recognised it, and I hope the Academy recognises it. Movies like Cold Mountain come out every year, are usually nicely made, well acted but ultimately lifeless and only represent the generic Hollywood drama rather than push the boundaries of filmmaking, which movies are supposed to.

Well done to PJ who takes home another well deserved award. LOTR will be remembered fondly twenty years from now, and as the influence for a whole new generation of filmmakers. Cold Mountain will be remembered as that forgettable film way back in Jude Law's filmography.

He may be a screw up of a president, depends on your own personal opinion, but he got his position through a public democratic system and he'll either leave office or be reelected next year by a public democratic system.

The pro-piracy\anti-RIAA(what's the difference) brigade around here remind me of those anti-war protesters. They'll moan and moan about infringement of rights etc but they won't offer an alternative solution.

I invite the poster to suggest other means of dissuading students from getting as much stuff as possible for free with the minimum of effort. As a former student and friend of lots of other students I know that's pretty next to impossible unless you threaten them with severe disciplinary action.

They deliberately break the law and steal and distribute thousands of dollars (at least) of other people's property. If some guy on the street was doing this with physical CD's he'd get plenty of jail time, so why are these students any different? I know many fools on this site likes to support thieves like this. And they all kid themselves that the RIAA (or it's equivalent) are the bad guys and they're sticking up for rights, etc etc... but lets face it, they're thieves like anyone else who steals property that does not belong to them. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. I have several friends who are struggling to get a foothold into the music industry partly because of piracy. They feel even more strongly about it than I do.

Stop looking for ways to justify piracy... That is the subtext of that quote after all. It's not the movie industry's fault or problem that someone makes a movie available for download. There are thousands of people involved in the production of one movie.

It's impossible to keep track of it througout the entire process. IT'S THE FAULT OF THE CRIMINALS WHO DOWNLOAD IT.

It's high time focus was directed towards the thieves who consistently steal movies and music. Especially those idiotic ones who try to justify it by treating the "Industry" as "The Establishment" that needs to be taken down... There are hundreds and thousands of ordinary people, like you and me(well maybe you), who depend on movie and music sales for their source of income

Piracy is killing the industry.. As a computer scientist I know that there is no technological solution. As a long time friend of a few struggling actors, camera men, and working-to-be-directors I know that it's their jobs which are being threatened, and in one case already affected. The "Establishment" will only be taken down after every single regular Joe Average has lost their jobs... so give it up

Like any criminal, I despise pirates and I am glad the RIAA have taken action, though it's too little too late I'm afraid. I hope every single one of you who regularly steals movies and music will be prosecuted with the full arm of the law, and shamed in front of your families.. just like the low life thieves who shoplift from record stores... for that is exactly what you are.

Appearences in the movie industry are everything, and if it appears he's just cashing in on the cloning craze (maybe he is, maybe he isn't) then many people will believe it to be so. It's also a bad name because it's way too cacophonic.

Bear in mind everybody that when I read Phantom Menace script I too thought it was going to be a great movie because it was such a great script. The two things that ruined Phantom Menace were Jake Lloyd's bad acting and Jar Jar Binks irritating voice. On paper, it would be impossible to tell what they were like. I thought Binks was going to be a Chewbacca type character, loveable without being too Disney. I was wrong. Not even Disney would associate themselves with that guy! Attack of the Clones has a terrible name. That was a bad choice on Lucas' part. It just seems like he's jumping on the cloning bandwagon we've been seeing lately in sciencefiction. However, Hayden Christian looks good in the role of Anakin, and Natalie Portman looks well...fabulous as she always does. It's a pity that this looks like it's going to be romance heavy, so I really hope there's a good twist in there somewhere, a la Empire Strikes Back.
