Star Wreck Trailer

ultramarweeni writes "'Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning', a very fascinating feature-length Finnish Star Trek satire is now nearing its completion. Today, December 13th, the trailer was published at 0:00 GMT after 14 hours of technical problems. Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning tells the story of the crew of P-Fleet starship C.P.P. Kickstart, which was stranded on Earth after an accident after a battle against the Korg. With the help of the technology to come, their leader, Captain Pirk claims himself as the emperor of the Earth. He conquers the world and rebuilds the P-Fleet. Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning has been in the making since 1999 and will probably be completed in spring 2004. Or maybe not. Time will tell."

But judge's eyes seem to glass over when a copyright case comes before them and will invariably rule for the plaintiff when plaintiff asserts that somebody used a piece of his work. This is helped by congress who is more than ready to serve special interests over that of public interest. (google Disney Hatch CTEA DMCA).

Next up: copyrighting "facts" and "numbers", which before where not copyrightable. This will open up a whole new world of corporate/political whoring so they can smack down some small website so they can protect their "profit", trampling the first amendment even more.

Funny thing is, Senator Hatch is the one continually proposing an constitutional amendment to prevent people from trampling on the flag. He's so self deluded that he doesn't realize that he tramples the constitution with the legislation he has sponsored/help sponsor (CTEA DMCA Patriot Act (he's a tool for Ashcroft)).

Understand that George W. Bush is not a popular man outside the United States right now (nor within -- but that's a different story). On numerous occasions, he has offended, misled, downright lied to, and otherwise committed injustices against America's allies and enemies alike. The European community is up in arms against the United States for any number of quite valid reasons. The movie's use of sarcasm (or caustic wit) in comparing G.W.B. against infamous dictators is a perfectly valid instance of satire.

For Americans like you, whose jobs and lives don't call for trips abroad, perhaps this is a moot point -- you're never directly exposed to the seething hatred of America and all things American that is accumulating in the international community. The common view of us is that we crash around the globe like retarded children, breaking everything we touch and seldom bothering to fix it. We are seen to manhandle sovereign governments, using our wealth to dispense punishment or favor and our military might to bend smaller nations to our will.

It is my personal belief that George W. Bush and his team of handlers, cronies and special-interest-group puppeteers really are responsible for our foreign relations crisis, through their hamhanded approach to foreign policy. But my political beliefs are irrelevant to this issue.
