Fire those lawyers, they are not worth their money if they issue such advice. It's their job to investigate such claims and defend against it, not to run away from any threat that is thrown at your company.
Which of course implied that an exploitable bug (e.g. buffer overflow) in the GUI apps or libraries can mean instant root compromise.
It is really hard to get good security and priviledge separation and at the same tim get userfriendlyness to the level of automatic login without passwords and simple administrative access as well, also without password.
It's probably much better to make people get used to providing a password for certain actions. It makes them more aware of security as well.
The GPL says that you should make a copy of the source available TO EVERYONE WHO RECEIVES THE BINARY. Not to the whole world. So if the document is for internal circulation, the source is for internal circulation too.
Two more notes:
1. What is source and what is binary for a document? I guess you could say that the.doc or.ppt is the source, and a.pdf created from it is the binary. So you could have some problem if you distribute the pdf file so noone can change the document, then the GPL would claim that you releade the.doc as well.
2. FUD anyone???
Subtle difference: Company A starts SELLING some 'free' (they believe) source code in their product. Only then are they in violation. As they should be, they are then making money selling the work of others without the permission of the original authors. That's what copyright is for, and it works.
[Need I add that this prooves there is no need for software patents since copyright law already protects your intellectual property?]
That's whatI thought, but you don't need those drop down menu's, just click on the download button and then you get to the next page.
But I agree, their websiet isn't entirely linux-friendly.
So true. And even on the Linux/Intel platform most people will probably stay with gcc, simply because it comes with their Linux distribution.
Linux distributors cannot place the Intel compiler on their cd since it is not totally free, but they have to give a compiler, so they distribute gcc.
But on the other hand, competition is good, maybe this will lead to further improvements in gcc
They probablycould not afford to pay for their license of WinXP + IIS:)

The Euro
·
· Score: 1
Of the countries participating in the Euro, at least Spain and The Netherlands had coins and bills for 25 cents / pesetas. Maybe others but I don't remember.
I guess most of the participating countries had the 1-2-5 system (at least france and Germany did) so that's what was decided for the Euro.
Maybe they consider French as an upgraded version of English?

Perhaps those defense security experts suspected these coins because US security agencies actually have spy coins? Just a thought...
Will this mean all future NASA projects will be in a near-permanent Beta release? Oh wait, nothing new there...

... is that Da Vinci was also the first to obtain a software patent on the software for his programmable robot...

Will it be so good that we will have to start worrying about windows virusses ? :)

Yes, I've installed some 5 updated versions of xfce this year, doesn't look like anything is slowing down at all.
