I think the key will be to use ones router for this for 'stable coverage'. Not actual computers. But, i suppose i could see it being handy on phones, to extend the range...
The reason its not being discussed is that they want this to pass without the general public hearing about it.
Why is that? Aside from the supposed 'IP protection' it helps squelch our right of free speech, which most of those entities are in support of, as THEY want the free speech, but not us.
In reality none of those are viable long term options either. Since the ISPs ( which are also content providers ) support this they will just take the next logical step, if these alternatives becomes common place, and ratchet down your "open" bandwidth to the point that you cant afford to do anything.
Buying content from their servers will of cousre not count against your measly cap.
The only true solution will be point-to-point community networks. ( mainly neighborhood wifi mesh )Get rid, and get around, the need for a link to the 'public internet' except for perhaps your online banking and buying stuff from amazon.
Except that taking payments for endorsements is illegal. "Capitalism" in this manner does not apply to congressional votes. ( or at least shouldn't, in a perfect world ).
I have been in the past, but i am not currently. In my case i do have expirence in the IT/Engineering field as a 'worker bee', for 20+ years, but i still don't feel that is a prerequisite for managing IT people. General knowledge of the field sure, but i would not expect a manager to know low level stuff like how to sit down and code an application, or recite the resistor color codes ( for 2 examples ) to be an effective manager of people.
So? Just beacuse you manage a department doesn't mean you can do the work they are doing. He was there to manage people, not code.. a vastly different skill set.
Sure, its nice if you can do the job of your people, so you can have a deeper understanding of what is going on, but its not a requirement.
I thought lawmakers work for us. So 'against widespread opposition' should be a clue that they no longer represent us citizens and should be tossed out of office.
We need to stop this belief that people have, that computers are appliances.
Computers should be appliances, for the consumer. Stuff should 'just work' and they should be insulated from the 'magic'. Else it would be like expecting a person driving a car to be a mechanic. Those days are long gone too.
Most "kids" wont see the point when you start showing them tubes and relays. Perhaps as they get older they can appreciate it.. But for the average kid it will be snoozeville.

I was speaking more towards the fact that most people around here are too young to remember it, not that its 'gone'.
But you will have to admit its a shadow of its former self. As is dial-up, UUCP, etc.
Its because those indicators will often fall along racial lines, and for a while now here in America you have been forbidden to tell the truth.

Ya, we can. Until we get sued by comcast/at&T/whowever, then they buy laws to prohibit it.
This is not how it is supposed to work, but anytime you involve politicians they will abuse/bend/break the rules for their own gain.
This is not exclusive to America, as politicians everywhere are like this.
When you are a virtual monopoly in a particular area, its sort of hard to boycott them even if you think there are other non-viable alternatives.

Who all here remembers BBSs and FidoNet?

Don't you mean 'write a check' instead? Money talks, Anything else is ignored.
As long as you don't break any encryption or use their firmware in the process. Or have a contract for any "network services".
Or scanning your file system on read/write requests. Or the guy you send mail too, or your video driver, or a host of other things..
You're an IT manager aren't you?

Just call every crime terrorism.
Sad really, as it 'normalizes' the true acts of terrorism. If everything is labeled terrorism, it becomes 'yet another crime' and is ignored.
Time to start looking to those 2nd Amendment solutions, boys and girls
Which has been under attack for generations. And the 1st, to prevent us from organizing in the first place.
History has not come full circle, yet.

For the average consumer, yes, I do.
The reason kids find it difficult to learn programming is because it is taught in a drab uninteresting manner.
Well at least there are no false expectations of fun for when (if) they get a job coding ..

I think 98 percent of economists would say that we need higher gas taxes
May i be the first to say 'screw you'.
Don't apply on private property.
Only if you are still on public property. I would imagine that inside the station it is not, so you are subject to their rules.
My advice ( not being an attorney ) would be to to politely refuse and ask to be escorted back to public land.
Then give them the bird.
They really need to get a life. If Google offends you then DON'T USE GOOGLE. No one is forcing you.
Is this really what this world is turning into? A bunch of whiny pansies.
