I used to be proud of my country. I honor the people that fought and lost their lives to create and maintain this country. Now I'm almost ashamed, because of what we are becoming.
Being vocally unhappy with where we are gong, when do i get labeled as a dissident and detained? That is the next stage of our eventual collapse as a 'free' society.
It may end up being just that, in a virtual sense.
Everyone will be afraid to open their mail or they might be accused of something and have their house taken, and ISPs will be filtering everything that does manage to come thru that doesn't meet the governments criteria of 'goodness'
While that is true ( somewhere i have a soft copy from when i had still access to the internal IBM network, back in the late 80's ) it wasnt exactally advertised at the same level as Apple did and ( intergalactic ) Digital Research had to..
If i remember right, ( its been a while so i could be wrong ) all the PS/2's ( with the exception of the server line ) still had the basic ROM installed.
And don't forget to follow thru and vote anyone out of office if they vote for the bill. Empty threats only compound matters, you must be willing to follow thru.
If you are a member of the trade union, the ip cops will come and shove it up yours, as being a separate sovereign nation wont mean diddly.
Man this is scary. Just the very idea of federal government running around to arrest people on a CIVIL issue where the burden of proof is ( basically ) reversed is frightening and completely contray to the constitution. WTF ?!?!
If we can make everyone a criminal ( and forgive the prison sentence, as we cant pay taxes in jail ), we can strip them of their rights and are much easier to control.
You have stumbled onto a much larger plan that isnt supposed to be known by the unwashed masses.
Now when will they start fining the ISP for delivering it to the access point and not reporting about the request for the 'bad' data? Cant have that pesky information passing thru unmolested can we?
Have always been more scrutinized. I don't see a problem here really, as long as it stays at the fedreal borders and doesn't start creeping inwards to include state to state travel. ( as i suspect it will )
I would also tend to agree, most power users want to get WORK done, and fooling around with icons and magical settings doesn't really help that happen, its all about the applications not the desktop, or OS underneath..
Personally, id rather a company push back a product release data if after a test release shows its not yet ready. And with something this complex, its bound to happen.
The alternative is they release garbage, and piss everyone off.
IRC is pretty much a shadow of its-self from the good old days of perhaps 10 years ago. Does anyone really even bother with it now? Between the scams/spam/abuse, why bother?
And no, I'm not trolling, i was there in the beginning, but watched it degenerate into a virtual cesspool years ago, and got out before it hit rock bottom. Has it improved?
That might be true, except not all BT traffic is a IP violation ( note, i didn't say steal, since its not theft, at best its copy right infringement ), lots of 'legal' downloads are disribtued via the BT protocol to reduce load on the original source.
So, throttling legitimate use does border on censorship ( but i agree, its not actually, as a private company really technically cant censor.. only governments can do that )

P2P wifi for game play would still be legal.
I thought we were already doing 'distributed games' like this? Its a rather logical idea.
This is a good example of why employers using DNA in their screening process is wrong.
Going to end up with a world of 'unemployables' as DNA technology improves to a frightening point of accuracy.
Sure, it will bring attention, but it wont get the law changed.
Good luck with that, you see where complaining and trying to 'vote different' got us down here south of your borders.. just more of the same.
Government is an institution larger then any one person, powered by the wealthy. It's really hard for the common man to make a difference.
But, you can still try.

Thats the way to deal with it: 'you don't get any rights, and if you don't like it, you can appeal, if we feel like listening to you'
If you go a little further back in time, remember when the entire ROM OS was listed out in the apple ][ manuals?
Or when CP/M came in source form, where you were *expected* to modify it to run on your hardware.
For the fondness of those 8 bit machines from the past ( regardless of what brand ) --- they worked. And STILL do...

So i guess that includes media that is legal to share.
Nice move, selling defective products by design. ill be sure to avoid WD products in the future.

Today kiddy porn, tomorrow 'dissident' knowledge.
Be afraid.
So they will now be greeted with 'your village' maps and have to contend with crazy people on golf carts?
Until the next storm that takes out power. Or forcing everyone to pony up 20 bucks a month as 'insurance'.
The greed of todays corporate america is mind boggling.
Were the things said opinions or what were believed to be true?
I think the same rules would apply. ( a take down notice might be appropriate on a false belief, but not a suit or loss of anonymity protection )

Once Google admitted it can and will/does filter search results, it opened the floodgates for stuff like this.
Don't say i didn't tell you so....
