That fact should be part of the summary. The whole point of a summary is so you dont have to go read the entire story.
But, regardless of who owns what, one should have a right to speak out. ( yes, i know its not legal up there, but that doesnt make it any less wrong to restrict speech )
Are canadians guaranteed that right like we are ( sort of ) down here in the USA? if not, while it sux bad, it would be well within the legal right to penalize the ISP.
On a normal machine, if you try to virtualize it you would notice right away that something was wrong as it would slow quite a bit.
There might also be driver issues that could tip you off something isnt right. May not know what, but it should be apparent something is amis. It would have to emuate all the hardware that you had installed at the time of infection, unlike something like VMWare which presents a 'standard' ( but different ) set of hardware devices. Thats a prety tall order to pull off.
If it was the companies laptop, and he deleted company files, then yes hes a criminal. ( which is what happend here )
Depending on the agreements at work, personal use/files may not have been permitted , so again he was in the wrong, techincally.
If it was his own laptop, and his own files hes not in the wrong. Unless of cousre he was trying to hide illegal activity ( intent ) ( which is an option for the private citizen )
If users on *your* network have a problem with their pc being managed, regardless of the tool you use, then they should not be allowed on your network. This isnt their home network, its yours. You are responsible for its upkeep and the only way to keep your network safe, and your users productive, is to keep control.
Sounds like its time to set some policies and enforce them.
1 - Ban all 'cash' transactions for anything. All transactions must use 'digital currency' and go thru the federal government along the way. Even for a burger or stick of gum.
2 - Just take all funds away from the people, make it a true socialist society.
3 - Anyone caught bartering for any reason goes to prison for life.
When you are a government, you will be surprised what they will do for you when things go wrong. And we were talking a government contract in the story.
When i talk 'learning assembly', i mean something like a Z80 or 8051, where you can really get your head around what is going on at a gate level, and follow the bits around..
Building your own CPU from scratch would also be a good expirence ( done that more then once, and i agree its fun ) but wasnt as practical as taking a small understandable 8bit cpu. I suppose using a 80dollar FPGA ( with the free SDK ) would make it practical in this day and age tho..
The quality of analog will always be better then digital. But there will be a point when the common man cant tell the difference..
But aside from that personal preference, perhaps the movies being put out suck and noone wants to go see them? Its a thought...
So your free speech is still restricted. Which is a shame.
Down here, south of your borders, we call it 'the press'.

" i feel race X is immoral and they should answer for their crimes, but im not advocating any action" hows that?
This is the very thing it was created for..
Last i heard Slashdot was in the US. So this wouldnt directly apply to them.
The judge and/or the government. They get to decide. Not you. Not I.

Its not like this isnt common practice in the first place.. "sorry its not quite done' is a good answer..

Who needs technology anyway.
They propose to do this very thing, for free. To bad they abondoned the PPC side for those of us resistant to the change to intel CPU.
Might be something to carry when a PDA just wont do the job, but a laptop is too much bulk.
Lets hope its not locked into Windows, so we can have a choice of what we want to run on it. ( i know, fat chance )
Who buys cds anymore?
Ok, let me clarify that: Who buys them from RIAA supported producions? Indie labels dont count, as they should be supported.

This was a joke.
No, freedom fighters and terrorists are not the same thing. They fight for totally different reasons, and use totaly different tactics.
Or were you just trying to be funny?
When you are a government, you will be surprised what they will do for you when things go wrong. And we were talking a government contract in the story.
There is value in having a company to blame and hold accountable when things go wrong.
You buy Microsoft, you get to run bill over the coals.. You choose OSS, its your own ass that goes in the furnace.
I thought they had their own internal version myself..

So you are saying its ok to torture a living creature for your medical gratification? You are sick.
And who ever modded me as a troll should be used in research themselves, for the same reason.
its sort of sad that we are creating, intentionally animals with disablities..
i know they are 'just mice' but still....
Wizards can save you time, if used sparingly.
I totally agree with the statement about assembler.. So many kids today dont have a clue what their code is *actually* doing.
