    Beacuse if its actually a hardware issue, as the story suggests it may be, it may equally effect other OS's that follow the proper ACPI rules. Espcially if Intel and Microsoft are hiding these facts from other manufacturers.

    That, and who around here cares about problems that effect only XP ? :)

    This sort of thing should not be permitted. We arent talking about R&D agreements here, this is a *currently selling product*. They are hiding the fact its known defective from the consumer.

    Isnt this a basis for a class action fraud suit? If not, it should be investigated by the SEC at least.

    in that case they are obligated to take ID and report the transaction.

    I know my memory has faded, but didnt 'dark avenger' erase the flash on some HD's, and 'CIH' do this to flash based PC bioses?

    Even if they didnt, this never was that hard to do by accident.. Ever powercycle a PS/2 while it was updating? Good chance you had to send it back to IBM.

    Webmin gives you an easy interface to Samba.

    And if you do need to manage users at some point, you can have webmin automatically propagate changes to other modules ( like samba )

    Did i comment at all about slavery? No.

    Define patriot. Booth qualifies, regardless of any political theories. He was willing to die for his country and took actions in order to protect it.

    There is of course room to debate if he was correct in his view, and actions that he took, but to deny that he was a patriot is wrong.

    If you are downloading, you arent stealing, you are commiting copyright infringement at the worst ( remember some licenses allow re-distribution, so i wont make a blanket statement )

    if you want to *steal* just go to your local store and leave with product with out paying for it. You dont need a 'app' to help you steal.

    Would be nice for people to get it right once in a while, instead of continuing to spread confusion.

    Sorry, we will always need some sort of oil.. A world with out plastics and moving parts would be pretty dull.

    However, reducing the need to where bio-oils can meet our needs, is a good goal.

    I would imagine that somewhere there is a single database for all the different 'divisions' of each company.

    And i bet they reside in the US, so using off-shore search engines may not help. Unless you choose one that is TOTALLY off shore and has no US ties. ( or is in a friendly nation )

    While you cant throw the *brand* linksys at your dialup line, there are many routers that support dialup ( such as USR ), or you can just build out out of a old and cheap used pc .. ( ipcop, freesco )

    Used a old 486 for several years as a 'dialup NAT firewall' for 2 PCs.. Sure it was slow sharing a 56k analog line, but its all we had available at the time in the area. ( even now i use a PC based firewall on broadband, as all the 'home routers' suck under heavy load. )

    With current versions of windows the DE ( and thus IE ) is a bit lower level, as many of its libraries are required for the OS to actually function. True, there are some kernel level items that wont need DE/IE, but it doesnt leave you with much..

    At least with KDE, you can drop it totally, and your system is still there and functioning.. Try that with windows somtime.

    Not saying either way is right or wrong, just different paths to get to the same place.
