If you get a contract ( like most people do ) you can get one for free ( ok, not truly free, but no up front outlay of cash ). If you want to own it out right, buy last years model. Or just buy a china android..
If you cant do either, you most likely cant afford the smart phone data charge either so the point is moot.
If you are offended by me exercising my right to free speech, go pound sand. ( and i bet you have a lot of it available if that video offended you ).
And speaking of, we are having a neighborhood Koran burning in the honor of our fallen Americans this weekend. We plan on roasting a pig over the coals. Who else is in?
More than that, why is he liable for what his WIFE did? If she committed the crime she should be fined. Not him.
I can understand the ISP cutting service due to a violation of TOS by sharing with your neighbors, but sharing with your own family is a ( potentially criminal ) TOS violation??? WTF?
I hate to use a car analogy, but if you loaned your car out to a guy across the street, and he robbed a bank and used your car for the getaway ( but you didn't know he was of course, or we would have a different legal issue ) would you be liable? Or if he solicited a hooker on the street corner? Yes, under these rules.
*IF* it pans out as usable ill change my opinion ( i am reasonable after all when shown actual evidence ) but i wont hold my breath on it. But, i guess since it is different than the Nook tech, it might be ok this time.
I agree on the 'reviews' looking fine, but you can never really know until you see it live in the store. Too bad they cant turn out the lights in the store for you too:)
If it does turn out to be ok, i wonder if they are 'hackable' enough to get ePubs native on there.
Add lots of flash and you could take your 'computer' with you where ever you go, and just plug it in to power/monitor/keyboard/mouse ( think card slot docking station ).
Sort of like what you can do now with a high end smart phone or average tablet... ( admittedly some being easier than others:) ) and have it useful even without the dock... Tho you are trapped with a non desktop-friendly OS while docked unless you run some sort of RDP type session from it.
Serious question. Why would vendors support such an approach? Especially in the consumer portable market which is growing every day and eventually will end up being most of the 'computing devices' we have in our homes and businesses.. Their revenue stream counts on devices being totally replaced every x months. If you could swap out inexpensive components like this instead they would be cutting their own noses off.
Nice technological idea ( and reminds me of some things done in the 80's ), but the marketing people will never let this get out in to the world beyond being a plaything.
The fact its side lit via a 'light pipe' is exactly why I'm apposed to it. It should be lit from above from a real light source, and i don't want yet another layer between my eyes and the 'ink'.
While i do fully admit i haven't seen a new kindle yet ( who has? ) and im going off the drawings of their solution, i can see a difference in the nook touch with and without and i'm not pleased with the glow worm version.
No, there isn't a *true* lighted e-ink. I realize that both amazon and B&N have added lights to theirs, but they are no longer true e-ink in my book and some bastardized 1/2 breed abomination.

Do you ever leave your mothers basement? Do you buy your own food? Do you buy clothes? Do you walk down the street all? Do you drive? I could go on and on... Unless you are independently wealthy and never leave your house, *everywhere* you turn, there is an ad in your face.
I agree many times its subtle like the logo on a car or a small 'on sale' sticker on the grocery shelf, but its still there and always chewing away at your subconscious
You have no clue what X11 is all about, and are a fool.
Or they are actually correct in their assertions of violations.
While one may disagree with the laws, until they are struck down they stand.
Everywhere else in the world, they do not, and have to pay for their own damn hardware
And i care about them in the slightest, why?
If every one didn't demand more features and larger screens, while reducing the size, we wouldn't have this problem.
Id be more than willing to ditch the 'shrink' in order to have a larger battery. They don't need to be any thinner..
And make a call to the family.
Now we see why things are so so screwed up when it comes to IP as the lawyers are not going to kill of their cash cow.
That is just ludicrous.
And I could care less about them and their pitiful existence.
And who are they?

Id go further and to say the 2 people 'the ones we can force to buy' and 'the ones we need to sue to pay up'.
For doing the right thing.

Who said it would be a joke. Ill kick in 20 bucks.
However, with this idiot the only review id give is that he's an idiot and don't buy his books. And i would be sure EVERYONE hears about it.

Thanks for understanding, seems few others have been able to.
Seems for the most part around here just because its 'new' makes it better, regardless if its truly improved or not.
They stopped being "true" in my book when they were degraded with the internal light source mechanics.
But then again, i'm repeating myself, for a bunch of idiots on Slashdot.. I think ill quit.

Schematics are good for future developers and to get the ball rolling for fabrication.

Sounds a little like a modernized version of the Rex5000 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REX_5000 )
What light? There isn't one in a true e-ink device.
