  1. No, really why do this?

    I can see booting off USB/CD to copy sensitive data somewhere else ( no i wont call it stealing..:) ) ... i can understand nuking the data to be a pita and piss them off, but why go thru the time and trouble to do this?

    Perhaps they just swapped drives and that is what was on the one they left behind?

    No really, 'yet another low end tablet' in an already saturated market. Yes i understand they need to push their device to maintain access to their 'ecosystem', but its boring and everyone is doing it now.

    Now if they came out with some color e-ink, that would be cool. Otherwise its just more of the same, incremental upgrades like everyone else is doing.

    Most people only run one. Perhaps multiple installs, but why bother with futzing with multiple versions.

    Tho i only run FreeBSD now, even before i switched back i only ran 1 Linux distribution at a time.

    Anyone even remember them? First GUI installer. Yes, i bought one.

    I don't know if id call it a 'distribution' but i started back when you had the boot and root floppies, and had to hex edit them to match your hardware. Then it was off to SLS, which i believe predated Slackware and Debian both. Ah the late nights in the PC lab at the college desperately trying to download floppy images before closing time, and then hoping they wrote properly...

    But once we had a system running, one could Kermit updates directly home. And it wasn't all that much slower.

    They have been on this sort of model for a long time with large customers.

    Nothing really new.

    But i do find it humorous as in the old days they were fighting against IBM's similar model with the big iron, and now we are coming full circle.

    Guess it wasn't so bad after all :)

    Now, they need to take the coders and make them do sales for a day.. finance go clean trash for an afternoon.. .etc etc.

    All this stuff messes with facial recognition. They also ban hats, glasses, etc. Facial hair, no, but you cant have your hair over your face...

    We have been doing this for some time now. Even caught a few people with multiple ID's in the system so it does work.

    You only get so many breaks during the day. That is what i'm talking about. Legally it depends on how many hours you work in what you get, but a contract may expand on that. Once you exceed that total, you are outta luck.

    You cant run off an take a 5 minute break every 10 minutes for the whole day and get away with it claiming its under 20... .

    They can shut down any of their services they like, completely arbitrarily, at any time. They are a company, not the US government.

    Now, we can debate all day if its a 'moral' policy, or if its good for business, but the fact remains they can do anything they want with their services.

    Right, they have to make it reasonably accessible, but they can still dock you for time if you are over your allowed break minutes.

    So you can ride the bus anytime you need to, but there is no free ride.

    Yes, yes it is, tho it may not be good for morale

    You get x minutes of break time according to your contract/law. Bathroom breaks come out of that time, not the companies time.

    If you ever worked on an assembly line, or a construction job site you would already know this is how it works. Office people really don't have a clue these days on what real work is it seems.

    If he did this, then yes he should be paying the penalty as that is a legitimate crime and uncool.. If he just 'promoted piracy' then no he shouldn't be detained, regardless of the 'law' as its a sham.

    And why was i modded funny? I was serous. Anyone that is against X11 doesn't fully understand it and only thinks about 'the local desktop' and not the bigger picture.

    Sure, it can be improved there is no doubt, but tossing out what it is and what it does is just plain stupid.

    Wayland from what i can tell is short sighted and more of a throw back to the island mentality. People who think RDP scenarios can replace network transparency really need to get a clue.
