You guys should take a look at OpenNIC, right now it's not under the influence of the corporate world and the open source community could build real and useful domain names (i.e. wine.oss for wine, slashdot.weblog, etc...)

We really need to get out of Unix based OS. Unix was cool 30 years ago when computer could only run 4-5 programs, nowadays recent Linux distro have more than 1000 apps. The file systems really need to be updated, having 1000 apps is a real nightmare, each program like to mess your config, etc... with 4-5 program, is was easy to manage your computer. We need something else, no loosy file here and here. The problem is that all the software runs on UNIX (Microsoft is a big hack of Unix with all the useful stuff left out...) There are innovative OS out there (and open source!), but they don't have much apps for them...
