  1. Re:I have to disagree with this on Evangelion Reviewed In LA Times · · Score: 1

Full Metal Panic is a good show. It just hasn't finished running on tv in japan yet. ( up to 13 has been fansubed)

I can't say I agree with you about Kanon I watched the first 2 eps and it will be awhile before I watch any more. It bored me to tears. Hikaru no Go however I like.

Crest of the stars(l) and Seikai no Senki I and II are a good series ( all three seasons ). I believe is is based on a novel, not manga like many other sereis. I think it shows in the depth of the world the story takes place in.

I loved X(l) TV but I think you need to be a clamp fanboy/girl to enjoy it.

Super Gals Kotobuki Ran is fun but really shojou.

Alien 9 is a short (4ep) OVA it is kind of strange but fun and depressing at times.

now the list with no explanation RahXephon, Kokoro Toshokan, Kaze no Yojimbo, Brigadoon(l), Pita Ten, Legend of Galatictic Hereos, Great Teacher Onizuka(l), The Five Star Stories, Black Heaven(l), Niea_7(l), Hana Yori Dango, Slamdunk, The newest 2 RK OVA's(l) are really good even if you didn't like the TV sereis.
    ( ok I've seen like 250 series/movies )( the (l) means it is licesened )

  3. Re:Akira Was My First Anime on Akira on DVD? It Might Happen · · Score: 1

The one I haven't see talked about often on slashdot is my favorite. I have seen a fair number of different series and movies and I fell in love with this one before the first epsiode ended.

    Serial Experiments Lain (13 ep.)

I won't try to explain it, but you should go see it.

  4. Re:Formats: Just what we -don't- want on Are Formats What Napster Really Needs? · · Score: 1

I agree that mainstream media is pure shit. I can't even stand to turn on the radio here at school. I don't want to be forcefed music, but I do want to be exposed to new music.
I like radio stations with people who are genuine in their love of music. I am talking about no playlist, freeform, the DJ plays whatever he wants. I love to hear new music, really good or just interesting. But I don't have time to listen to the thousands of releases.
Finding a kindred spirit on a non traditional media outlet becomes as interesting and enjoyable as the good music it can expose you to.
I don't expect this from napster, but if music on the internet is no more than looking for stuff on you own you will be no better off than buying random records. Except you will waste time instead of money.
Just a little rant, I miss the 2 good stations in NY.

  5. Re:"Universe proven flat"...? on Universe's Curvature Measured? · · Score: 1

The term flat applies to the way the universe will continue to expand. Flat refers to a slowing of the rate to 0. the universe will never stop expanding but the rate will go to 0. As opposed to a constantly expanding or eventualy contracting universe.

  6. Re:Then why did they dissappear? on Dinosaurs May Have Been Warm-Blooded · · Score: 2

The asteroid theorey looks realy cool on the surface but falls short. No theory I have seen to this point has adequately explained not only the dinosour die off but also the large die off in the sea. The cold, lack of sunlight ,the acid rain, and fires leaves little chance for the anphibians, coral, both fragile groups of animals and all other species that survived. Also, if you look at the number of species of dinosours as you approach the K/T boundary you see a noticable decline in diversity. This hints at the fact that they were allready on the decline.
The only reason the asteroid theory stands out is because it is simple: big boom they all die. The truth will turn out to be far more complex. The largest mass extinction event, at the permo-triasic boundary which was much bigger seems to be the chance combination of multiple factors. None of which by itself could have caused the extinction.
I suspect it will turn out to be the same for the K/T extinction. The asteroid did hit but it probably was not nearly as bad as the popular press would have us believe. Just one of a muultitude of factors which affected not only the land but oceanic environents.

Yes everyone was dead on the ship when it was found. However, the epesode ends with Harry Kim changing the past. So the timeline was changed and the crash did not happen.

  8. Good Book but a Movie??? on Jon Katz' "Geeks" Goes Hollywood · · Score: 1

I was able to get an advance reader's edition in November and I enjoyed the story.

I am not so sure how well the book will be as a movie. ( intro: 2 geeks playing Quake for 20 min... ) Even if it is done well the story might not hold the public's attention for very long. I can only hope the movie will remain true to the ideas in the book and not cave to the desire of the company to pander to the LCD to make profit. ie. make the stroy overtly emotional and silly

On second thought, John's involvement in the book and how he helped( read book ) could make for a good story. But then it wouldn't focus on the 2 geeks.

I can't really see the book as a movie. I'll just wait for it to come out in theaters.

  9. Who Cares? ( about the mainstream ) on Ask Slashdot: Another Word for "Hacker"? · · Score: 1

I personaly don't care about the opinions of the mainstream press. If you are a hacker, and I am not, then anyone who's opinion counts understands what you do.

Conformity is not the nature of hackers. Should the desire for acceptence cause the word itself to change? I say no.

The mainstream is beginning to accept the idea of open source. Either "hacker" will or won't eventualy take on the meaning it has in the programing world, but I'll be dammed if I change one thing I do because of the opiniton of the mainstream.
