If your VPN were set up properly it would be split routing, so only internal IPs (and possibly remote site-to-site VPNs normally reachable through the internal network) are reachable through the VPN, and everything else goes out of the default route. For those not familiar with the moderately bizarre taxation schemes brought into existence by agribusiness, diesel sold to farmers to fuel their power farming equipment is "untaxed" and dyed red at the distributor to distinguish it from "road" diesel It's also called #2 home heating oil - no difference. It's also sold to the construction/excavation industry to run site equipment like track hoes and site trucks - whatever doesn't go on the road the runs on diesel. I don't see how this is all the bizarre - road taxes are paid via fuel - I don't know if that's fair or not, but that's how it is. Fuel for vehicles not destined to be on the road don't have to pay their share of the tax. Farm vehicles count as this. Yes, farmers abuse the privilege by registering pickups as farm vehicles and shouldn't be doing so, but it's hardly bizarre.

It's really your own fault if you lost that kind of money because you aren't in a good enough service area - it's just not that hard to figure out before signing a 2-year contract, ESPECIALLY on a phone with a restocking fee.

There are 2 main reasons for leasing: You can't/don't want to afford a proper down payment and/or in a business situation you have already hit your capex for the year and need to figure out how to depreciate another asset.

Because your cable is analog (and the VCR has a "cable-ready" tuner) you can leave it off and it will turn on and change channels as it needs to to record the shows. With digital cable this isn't possible. The VCR has no way to control the cable box on its own!

The last VCR I bought, a Sony (one of the higher end consumer models) has a "cable mouse", which is just an IR transmitter that you put over the receiver of a cable box/directv box. It changes the channels on the box and works just fine.
