Actually, Apple really does mean "think different." They're telling you what to think, not how to think.

I have too many good recordings in my collection to EVER have my 'entire music collection' on some little shiny device I bought last week. Those big boxes of vinyl albums aren't in an easily convertable digital format, and never will be. Let's not even get INTO the matter of all the acetate 78 RPM records.
And how often do you actually listen to all your vinyl? If there are albums you haven't listened to in quite a while, then they ought not even to count as part of your music collection. They're just gathering dust in some box.

We're talking about portable MP3 players. Unless you carry around a turntable with you, mentioning your boxes of vinyl is comparing apples to oranges at best.

  7. Re:Sony MP3 players? on MP3 Player Shoppers Guide · · Score: 1, Insightful
People who think they need to carry around their 'entire music collection' are being pretty anal. Build a 'playlist,' stuff it in your player, and go out and enjoy listening to it. The only people who need to carry their entire music collection with them at all times are the homeless.
Only in your limited experience. I personally don't feel like syncing my iPod to my computer every time I want to change my music line-up. At any given time, I may be in the mood to listen to something else.

In my case, having my entire collection is even better since the only place I use my iPod is in my car (connected to my Alpine head unit via an adapter). On a long drive, it's nice to have my entire collection to choose from.

Just because you don't want or understand why somebody would want their entire collection doesn't mean it's not a valid thing to want. Your understanding is irrelevant.

Aside from that, the atmospheric pressure, not to mention the sulfur/acidic environment, is quite inhospitable to life. An organic molecule would fall to pieces under such conditions.

I mean for goodness sakes, its a FSKING THEORY (both of them). Now, the good thing about Darwinism is that there is alot of evidence to suppor that theory.
First, "Darwinism" is an imprecise label. Darwin discovered evolution (a fact). As a possible explanation of how evolution (the fact) works, Darwin also proposed natural selection (a theory). Natural selection isn't the only theory that attempts to explain evolution: punctuated equilibrium is another.

This is precisely analogous to gravity (the fact) and Newton's mechanics (the theory). Newton's theory has since been replaced by Einstein's general relativity (another theory), but at no time did gravity (a fact) stop being true.

Intelligent design isn't a theory since it (a) makes no predictions, (b) can never be tested, and therefore (c) can never be falsified. By not being a legitimate theory, it has no place in a classroom, especially a science classroom, and most especially in a country where the government supposedly has a seperation of church and state.

By "their hardware" I meant "the hardware sold by them" not necessarily that they manufacture all the hardware sold by them. Indeed, Apple doesn't manufacture any video cards. They buy the cards from either NVidia or ATI. They also test OS X against those cards that they sell.

If you buy some other video card and it just so happens to work, good for you; but Apple doesn't guarantee that OS X will work with some other video card.

The day Apple decides to put OS X onto a DVD and let you install it on your whitebox built computer...
For the millionth time, this will never happen. Aside from the fact that Apple is a hardware company and the $99 price of OS X is enormously subsidized by the sales of hardware, OS X isn't (and never will be) developed for and tested on the myriad of PC boxes having various motherboards, video cards, sound cards, etc.

One of the reasons OS X works so well is because Apple knows exactly what hardware it will run on -- their own. Apple doesn't want to deal with the nightmare of having to support OS X on a generic PC box. Besides, what kind of support do you expect for $99? Do you really expect that a Mac Genius at an Apple Store is going to spend time diagnosing OS X on your PC?

The cost of entry to use a *nice* Apple is just too damned high
Not really if you compare it to a comparable PC. That aside, apparently Apple doesn't care that some people can't afford their computers just like BMW doesn't care that some people can't afford their cars. Yet you don't hear people bitching about the price of BMWs. A Mac is simply better (not to mention more stylish) hardware that "just works" with a killer OS. Better things tend to cost more. Get used to it.
