Do you have stats to show that Maine & Nebraska's districts change more often than any other states?
Gerrymandering is another BIG problem in my opinion and hopefully switching to district level system would bring it more to light and get some laws on the books to reign in the politically movitated redistrictings.
Perhaps change so that either Popular vote decides the election, or in a compromise do it like Maine & Nebraska where it's by congressional district, so winner doesn't take all in a particular state. Seems to me to be a true representation of the people's will doesn't it?
Saying Bush won with more votes in history is downright misleading(sp?). He won with more votes in history in an election with MORE VOTES CAST than any election in recent memory. Show me he got a higher PERCENTAGE than anybody else and I'll be impressed.
except that if a Bounty Hunter is looking for you it's because a Judge has issued an order for your arrest (you skipped bail, etc)...hence they've got permission to take you in any way they like.
the differences would probably help as the infant wouldn't get confused between the two...
a house with Spanish and French might produce different results...anybody have that growing up?
It's also well documented that once you learn a 2nd language the 3rd 4th etc are much much easier. If you learn them as a child then it's *lots* easier. You've learned to associate things in ways single language speakers (me!) just can't do. I had 5 years of German in HS but it just never clicked. I can speak rudimentary German today - but only with English grammer...
I'd say voting for Kerry would get you closer to Fiscal responsibility. Not because Kerry would do anyting positive, but having a Republican congress and a Democratic President (or vice versa) tends to slow the spending because stuff just doesn't move as fast as the current rubberstamp situation.
same things happens when a budget stalemate happens, if they can't decide how to spend the money, it goes straight to paying off debt.
So is voting Libertarian for president really going to help you get where your going? voting Liberatarian at lower levels will build a grass roots party that will eventually be able to compete, but a Libertarian vote for President today is a waste; yes you feel better, yes you made a statement but you're more likely putting whatever candidate of the two you WOULDN'T vote for into office.
* Front or Back: Which side of your check does your candidate want you to sign? *
More likely which one gives you a bill now...and which one isn't telling you how much it's going to cost when the bill is due.
Remember, that $600 tax refund people got? That *huge* stimulus...guess what, the majority of people paid off debt. So lets say 20% interest (being generous), that's $12.00 per year savings per person. Wow...hugh benefit to the economy. 2 Fast food meals savings. Now lets see how much interest you're paying now on that money that could have been used for the greater good but instead was sent to the people. Doesn't exactly end up very profitable does it?
The National Debt is the people's debt. Bush saying he's giving the money back to the people is deceptive; he's not paying what are the peoples rightful bills, he's just postponing them until their children will have to pay them plus a *lot* of interest. (spending excess is a bi-partisan problem but Bush is the one who blew the reductions in deficit out of the water)
I respect your view point on creationism vs evolution. I'm happily on the Darwin side myself. I'm also happy to hear about creation theories that don't boil down to 'because that's the way it is'. I find it fascinating that science is proving that parts of the biblical texts actually did occur; or at least likely occured similarly to what's been passed down over the ages.
May I suggest you think about why the ID folk only want *their* Intelligent Designs taught in schools? I think we really should be teaching Native American Indian creation theories as well, perhaps the Aborginal (sp?) from Austraila as well if they're really interested in true teaching of non-Darwin based reasons as to 'why we're here'.
And if you really want to see the sparks fly, suggest the teachings of the Koran (and I have no idea what these are or if they are diff from Christian type concepts...but my guess is the 'supporters' of ID would have a huge problem with this just on concept)
As you said the 'animal' with poor vision and smell is at a disadvantage and more likely to be killed by a predator. So now in the remaining population the 'mutations' giving better sight or sense of smell will reproduce more in comparison as the weak 'animals' have been culled from the herd as it were.
If you're talking about just one individual yes it's contradictory as they can't reproduce, but rarely are entire species wiped out quickly enough to stop the mutations from having a positive effect. (ignoring our own human influences on nature of course!)
Nothing is worse than someone coming to a complete stop on an entrance ramp
A word of advice...don't *ever* go to Eastern PA. If you think it's bad in DC it's nuts up there; the ramps are nicely shorter too, blind curves to accelerate towards a stopped car you can't see...oy
My theory on DC drivers is this...they suck badly because as soon as people learn to drive (about 4 years) we send them home and get new morons in!
Lets hope it's a better 'phone' than its predecessor.
When using a headset, the Treo 600 doesn't ring in your earpiece? Um hello, do these people not drive with a window open?
Vibrate Mode, I've had it on my belt and I still can't feel it well enough to ensure I'll get the call.
Built in Voice Memo recording - how is this not built into the phone by default.
Voice Activated dialing *and* phone answering, Treo 600 requires you to push a button to answer.
And *all* of these features were handled by the Kyocera 6035 almost 4 *years* ago. The Kyocera would actually ask "Incoming call, would you like to answer" and you could say "Yes" or "No". That's what I call hands free operation.
I own a Treo600 because it's a good fit size wise and it's a better combo unit than most others, but as a phone it leaves a LOT to be desired.
that would sorta stop them from being able to switch channels at the request of a patron now wouldn't it?
Maybe if the off button device becomes common place and *used* regularly, but otherwise most places want to be able to change the channel if more people want to watch a different game.
But like it or not, the average person has a lot of options for recording these days.
For the moment anyway, but with the digital revolution they have the option of putting the genie back in the bottle via broadcast flags etc that the average user doesn't know about until it's too late. Digital radios requiring digital receivers that have digital connections to digital speakers...not terribly far fetched anymore.
This is a battle that can't be won without draconian mesaures.
Suing Grandmothers for instance? You're right of course, but the **AA's aren't exactly known for common sense and compasion and they do have large pocket books to buy laws
I do remember a period of time in the 80s when it was illegal to own a 4-track recorder in a residential area in my state
Probably ruled unconstitutional or just ignored nowadays..ala DMCA in a few years hopefully.
Much appreciated. I was commuting downtown from Centreville for about 2 years that ended just as this feature came online. But traffic and the comedy channels would be the big draws for me;-)
What better way to soothe the savage commuter beast in all of us than to make us bust out laughing, eh?
No, simply not buying, copying, nor listening to the music wouldn't be civil disobediance.
Fine, take an ad in the paper and tell everyone you are not buying and why. Or better yet call it FREE MARKET.
the unfair law
What exactly is unfair here? Someone provides a product with an agreement for use. That agreement is violated and the material is put on the net for anyone to copy and share. Does that somehow invalidate the original agreement? If you don't *like* the terms don't trade in the product.
If one were to give away PD or one's own music in such a way
Yes but that's not at all the POINT being discussed here, it's about music you DON'T have rights to distribute.
you could illustrate the a legal need to p2p channels
this case has nothing to do with p2p channels being legal or illegal, it's about the RIAA circumventing courts and issuing supoenas themselves.
Ok, ranting aside, I don't much care for the RIAA and their tactics. I'd like to see a time when musicians got paid fair value for their music. The only way I can see that in light of the current situation is through live performances (much as it was before recording became possible). Though frankly what will that do to already incredible ticket prices?
Bottom line is sharing music you don't have rights to share *is* illegal and should be in my opinion. I write software for a living and I wouldn't want my bread and butter being freely distributed either...I gotta eat somehow:)
"Civil Disobediance" in this case would be not copying, listening to, supporting or buying the music in question.
Now if they said that only certain people could have the music for free then you'd have a point, but they don't want *anyone* to have it for free. You aren't taking anything away from them by possessing the music (without buying it) therefore you aren't doing anything to 'hurt' them. Which is usually the argument for why sharing music should be ok, "It doesn't hurt them".
Now it's the argument for disobeying the law? To hurt them?
I think we'll still have a staff of Telecom folks who are instead trained up in additional IT concepts like routing, VLAN's, etc.
That's fine, but there will still be a net reduction in the number of people as they will able to handle both areas. Hence the higher net profit argument touted by numerous other posters.
Your point about training is a good one though and most people overlook that.
Buy a VW...they still make about 50% of their cars manual transmission for the US market (read that a year or two ago and can't find a link at the moment...)
Or order one, there are plenty of cars that have it offered and if you're willing to wait for what you want you can get it. As for having it 'on hand' that's just not where the market is currently.
I'd say the AC was meaning if a company sells a product IT knows to be dangerous (and doesn't tell anyone about it) then they should be just as liable as a person since they have the equivalent rights.
The original Ford Mustang gas tank is an example, story here.

I guess my point is the 'other' types of creationists don't seem to be the ones pushing their views into curriculums.

Actually it proves Darwin's theory...
As you said the 'animal' with poor vision and smell is at a disadvantage and more likely to be killed by a predator. Only problem becomes one of scale since *everybody* probably gets the same 'alternate' route...at least until that fills up too
But the idea is a good one

IE 6, W2K sp 4 and IE will let me into gmail without trouble.
and yes it's my office machine..Firefox here and at home though for important matters
a smartphone I can take seriously

Are you implying that Microsoft programmers are *human*?
Taco...remove this infidel!

How is the traffic as compared to WTOP's reports?
um perhaps because we didn't *put* the oil there in the first place?
