  1. Prolog on The Most Important Obscure Languages? · · Score: 1

Prolog. Most notable use-case is in IBM Watson.

  2. It's the music on Crime Reduction Linked To Lead-Free Gasoline · · Score: 1

Heavy metal incites youngsters to crime, we all know that.

  3. Re:Environmentalists from bizarro world. on Green Light For ITER Fusion Project · · Score: 1

As far as I know, there is no insurance company in the world who will insure a nuclear fission power plant. Low risk, ah?

  4. Call them with real names on China's Second Manned Space Flight · · Score: 1

As far as I know, they are not astronauts.

    Americans in space are astronauts,
    Russians in space are cosmonauts,
    Chinese in space are taikonauts.

"Taiko" as in taikong, space. "Naut" as in nautical.
    So a Chinese-Greek hybrid meaning "space-sailor".

  5. MCU's on Microcomputers for Homebrew Projects? · · Score: 1

MSP430 series from Texas Instruments are quite good (and with ultra-low power consumption). They also have GNU toolchain available.

  8. Gyroscope on Airborne Mouse · · Score: 1

It seems to be using gyroscope. pretty nifty ;)

And it seems to go up to 30m... and use crypted communication... welll 80$ for that mouse isn't much. should get one of those if i will need to do some boring presentation again... better than cordless trackball...

Actually, same gyroscope technique can be used on joysticks to make them more real (imagine this thing mounted on your both wrists and body in front of huge screen... well for others it might then look like your'e leading an orchestra ;)) but that woulb be really nifty... dammit i will write down this idea for my next robotics project....

  9. 10GHz processors on Cheaper SMP AMD Motherboards? · · Score: 1

This 10GHz processor story is a rumor from someone who visited intel labs and had a look on prototype 10GHz ALU, not processor. And i believe it's also a hoax.

Truth is that for example IBM has some semiconductors in lab with higher clock speeds then 10GHz, but they are fiber recivers, transmitters and stuff like that, but for sure - not x86 compatible processors. And things what are new in labs, aren't expected in public yet...

  10. Not ready on Cheaper SMP AMD Motherboards? · · Score: 1

AFAIK AMD processors are still not ready for heavy multiprocessing yet... I think it's better to wait for hammer series that should have good support for SMP > 2 processors. On other thought, i may be wrong...:)

  11. Re:This doesn't mean on New GNU Hurd Kernel Released · · Score: 1

It's still running, but not at my place, it's on 9th floor of some company building, that has paid phonebills of 3 lines for 7 years now :)

And i'm just lazy Co-SysOP, not real SysOp. But fact is, it still runs ;)

I should make a copy of it's harddrive soon, for presentation of Fidonet and BBS on 3 day event called BBSummer.

  12. Bad Blocks and currie point on D-VHS to Hit The Market This Week · · Score: 1

Ever wondered, what bad blocks on your floppy disk were? It is digital, but when magnetic domains get flipped enought to wrong direction, your ones will become zeroes and contrary.

For that reason, optical media is more secure. BTW, in optical disc writers (CD, DVD) data is written with magnetic forces, reflective layer is heaten with laser to a temperature of currie point, where domains can be influenced with magnetic field. Below that point, domains don't care about magnetic forces. That's why your CD's are hot when they come out of CD writter. That's also why procedure is called toasting ;)

BTW, i believe it's most stabe maschine i have seen, for now, it has uptime about 3 years. Running MS DOS/DesqView (not DesqViewX)/and ofcourse: FrontDoor/ML (and on bbs side, maximus)

Well i haven't switched monitor on for two years now.. so maybe it's not running after all... last maintance was with Y2K problem, when some messages got screwed up.

It's a really good project and wish you all good luck with it.

  18. NT on Wine Now Really Does Windows · · Score: 2, Insightful

As i remember, ReactOS is stil based on NT architecture... And as this architecture becomes obsolete in few years, well it will happen in about time ReactOS gets stable and full featured.

Anyhow, Reactos rules for their concept, but is staying far behind Big Brother..

And that means you can't kill explosion of supernova with nuclear weapons, and you can't make a shield strong enought as earth will be vaporized...
