Why is it that every single thread about American businesses not having their own way in Europe ends up with comments like this? Is it a prick to the American ego that your beloved mega-corporations can't steamroll over the rest of the world like they can in the US?
There will always be scarcity. Even if you have some sort of replicator that can make anything, that only solves the scarcity of goods, not services. Unless you have an infinite number of people all working for free performing every single service or job imaginable, there will always be scarcity.
I'd rather have the drawbacks of proportional representation than those of a district system (where you tend to end up with two viable parties, neither of which represent the views of the majority of the people)
Instead you get 400 parties, none of which represent the views of the majority of the people, with 300 of them in a coalition. Of course as so many parties are in power, they can all blame the other, and there is no accountability. You can't vote out an unpopular party, because they can just form a coalition, even if they hardly get any votes.
If you're paper counting it anyway, why bother with an electronic system? Electronic voting is a solution looking for a problem. America might not be able to add up pieces of paper, but many other countries manage just fine.
The travesty is that sixty years ago, a middle class income would have been more than sufficient to pay the bills.
Sixty years ago, hardly anyone was middle class. Sixty years ago, most people didn't even have indoor toilets, never mind central heating, air conditioning, cable TV, and all the other luxuries that the middle class 'need' today.
Many of them grew up in families that lived on a single income, and they are disillusioned when unable to do the same.
Did they grow up in houses with flat screen TVs and computers in every room?
Why would people get mad when their wealth gets more valuable?
I think people would be pretty mad when they lose their jobs because people are putting their money in mattresses rather than buying their company's products. And the people who don't have any wealth and are unable to gain any would be pretty mad as well.

But what about non-Romani gypsies, such as the Irish travellers?
Incorrect. Gypies are not necessarily Romani. Many gypsies are Irish, and have nothing in common with Romani gypsies. And they are blamed for theft, petty-crimes and being ripped-off, because that is generally how they earn their living. If you want confirmation, just ask anyone who's lived near a gypsy camp.
Gypsy isn't a racial term though, gypsies can be either Romany or Irish. So to be gypped isn't a negatype stereotype on an ethnic group, but a culture of outlaw travellers.
How does the person receiving know where the call's coming from then? I wouldn't like the thought of paying for calls/texts that I didn't request. It pisses me off enough when I get an irritating pointless phonecall, I can't imagine having to pay for the priviledge of being disturbed.
Then don't offer it. If you have to pay $20 per month for ESPN (because it comes bundled with 40 other sports channels) but no one would pay $20 for just that one channel, then you drop it. If there are a few people that would pay for it, offer it. I don't see the problem.
Why drop it, if people are buying the packages and watching the channels? You haven't given any reasoning in your post other than 'give me what I want'.
Except they were already granted the monopoly in exchange for spending billions laying cable. If you take away or interfere with their monopoly, you'd have to pay them back.
If the NYT is left, what exactly are their left-wing policies? They support wars in the middle east, they support Israeli violence, they're huge Bush supporters, what exactly do they say that could be considered left wing by anyone other than Mussolini?
We should ensure that any company that does work overseas, does it to US or higher standards. The includes Nike paying US minimum wages and Exxon following US pollution guidelines.
And conversely, when an American company does business in Europe, they have to pay their American workers European minimum wages, and give them European holidays, benefits etc. So if Microsoft want to sell Windows in France, Microsoft workers can't work more than 35 hours a week, with six weeks holidays a year. Otherwise they'd just be taking advantage of poor wages and conditions in America.
I live in the UK, and watch commercial TV, I just turn over when the adverts come on. I didn't realise that the 'mastication for the nation' advert was about chewing gum. And I doubt people would buy it based on whether it stuck or not.
Since when do chewing gum companies have PR? They never really advertise, and people aren't going to switch from Wrigley's to some unknown brand because it's non-stick.
However the real benefit is that the old 'sticky' gum can just be banned.
Those boxes are crap. They freeze up all the time, it takes ages to change channels, and teletext doesn't work properly. And if your TV isn't perfectly flat on top, you've nowhere to put it. Unless you have the right ariels, you can't get good digital reception anyway.
This digital TV thing is just a scam to line the pockets of set-top box manufacturers.

That's odd, because his books were openly critical of socialism.
People who use London public transport have to live in fear of Muslim extremism every day.

I've never seen any of it.
The NAFTA doesn't even have its own currency, and in all likelihood, never will.

The Simpsons is living on past reputation. If it was released today, no-one would watch it.
There are millions of funny videos on youtube, it doesn't mean they should get awards.
