  1. Re:Sounds mostly familiar on Health Problems Related to the Geek Lifestyle · · Score: 1

It's silly to say that programmers cannot focus on 1 task because our brains are to smart. Playing any organized sport requires focusing on many things at once. I recently joined a flag football league, and I felt overwhelmed by the amount of mental choices I had to make while running. This seems to be a conveinent excuse to justify the geek sterotype. In reality, the average banker is overweight too (in my experiences), but I attibute this to his sedintary job and ability to afford (and thus overindulge in) food - not his brain training.

It's no surprise this bill is coming out of New Jersey. NJ has host to two major Internet speech cases in the past 2 years: E merson, NJ city council members sue EyeOnEmerson.com over anonymous postings [freedomforum.org] (note: the council members lost their case) Troy Hills Village, (Parsippany, NJ) vs. John & Jane Doe users of ApartmentRatings.com [nytimes.com] (note: case still in progress)

  5. Usually 8==8 and 12==8 on Do Long Work Hours Affect Code Quality? · · Score: 1

Every software company I have worked at claims that a 50 hour work week is the norm. However, what I always find is that I am never actaully "working" for even close to that. A lot of the day is spent socializing with friends, longer lunches, and more web surfing. Management needs to wise up to the fact that just because people are at work for longer hours does not mean you always get more work out of them. Longer hours usually just equal less productivity in my experience.

  6. Smart people are so stupid. on Updated Slashdot Advertising Policy · · Score: 1

We're supposed to be smart. People, it's just an April Fools day joke. Why are you all so gullible? I suppose the paranoid side of us geeks can't help, but ask: "But what if Rob is serious?" If this is serious, then I'll shave my dog's head.
