    What the USA needs w/r/t energy is for the government to fuck off and let supply and demand sort it out. When solar power becomes more cost effective than natural gas, it won't take tax money to make it happen.

    The "value" is, in general terms, approximately the cost of production and distribution.

    That sounds suspiciously close to Marx's brain-dead "labor theory of value".

    The value of anything is determined by its buyers and sellers. You can spend all you want on producing statues of Alexander Hamilton made out of compressed manure, but that doesn't mean they're worth the shit you put into them.

    Before the Java/.net generation, there was the VB generation, and if you keep going back you can find more. Good programmers are still being trained, just as there always were. The difference now is just that there are a lot more of the low-skills chaff to sift through.

    Two of the best bosses I've ever had could be described as "non-technical managers". They made sure I had what I needed to get my work done, they were very clear about the objectives, and they kept the rest of the organization from distracting our team.

    That command makes a ramdisk a bit bigger than four gigs. I like to drop my Xcode projects on it; it can turn a five-minute build time into one minute or less.

    And yes, theoretically, if you have enough RAM you don't need a scratch disk, but various Adobe products haven't quite figured that out.

    Considering what Snowden got his hands on, I have to wonder whether the NSA has any secrets at all, considering that there are probably numerous professional foreign agents in the organization. It would not surprise me to learn that Russia, China, Israel, and maybe even France have total access to the lot.
