Pretty good deal. Only downsides I see to my choice in board, it only does Stereo sound, and no TV output. But easily rectified with a scan converter, and say a pcimia sound card attatched to the PC104+ expansion (supports 3 PC104+ devices.
Nano-ITX doesn't excite me, much smaller formfactors already exist for relitively the same price. PC104+ is pretty cool option too.
That would be nice. I have no plans to play a GBA. But I wouldn't mind picking one up for under a $100 just to rip the LCD out and use for other means.:)
Stereo-typing? Hardly. There is certain individuals such as the ones depicted in the game in real life. What ever race, nationality R* chooses to base the games culture on someone is going to be offended. Now if R* was a film production studio and made movies no one would as much as make a peep about this so called racial stereo-typing. Oh wait I take that back because if a bunch of white guys made a movie about black guys in da hood, that would be racist... but if a black made it, hell that would be considered emmy winning material.
Obviously you're not looking at a PC for it is a face value by the statements you are making.
Since you are taking in only the assumption that one would only use a PC for playing games, then yes it is not worth it.
However the reality is is that most people do not use a PC only for the purpose of playing games. PC's are open ended, and allow endless possiblities. Console are not.
Within the decade the spinning hard disk may go the way of the floppy and CRT."
Huh last time I checked the CRT is still the best thing you can use for viewing stuff. LCD's are really pancakes made of poo.:) And floppies are not dead by anymeans. Still find them a helluva lot more versatile in a critical situation than a bootable CD will ever provide.
Even low income households can obtain a low end PC these days. I for one am in that boat. Except over years I have been able to build a up a very nice system.
There is a few non-profit organizations out there that help low income individuals, or organizations with obtaining computers.
It's easy as going to a thrift store now and building lowely Pentium system for cheap. Or grabbing parts from the curb. (Done that few times too).
And even if you don't have a PC, most likely you know someone that does, or have access to one.
Even for consoles, you may have little income, but you are allowed to spend the basic needs money (least here) on whatever you wish, as long as it's not illegal substances.
Oh you are good.:) Many thanks. I had just posted about trying to figure out the stream links. I didn't get anywhere as close as you did, started hitting walls. Excellent job indeed.:)
Well that's not the case in Canada. I don't know what the laws are. But I do know of my life time it was always a pain to buy certain magazines, even High Times is sometimes hard to buy if you are minor.
As for movies if you are not off age based on the rating for the movie there is no way in hell you can get into seeing. I'm 25 now, and hell man I got carded for trying to House of 1000 Corpses.
As for buying movies on the hand. Most stores don't care, unless it is porn.
But to rent a movie on the other hand you must be of age, but usually only applies to movies that at least NC17 or higher rated.
Different worlds we live in I guess.:P
Doesn't mean you can't obtain such items, it's just not as easy.
Parents can displine their children as much as they want. Only a few will actually listen. The majority get their influences from outside sources. I'm sorry to say but people are influence by the things we interact with Be it fiction or non-fiction, people, life experiences, and even omg video games!
The rules applied to movies, magazines, or other mediums should also apply to to video games. I feel it is the moral responsibility of the store to enforce them. Then if the parent or gaurdian chooses to allow their child to have access to a product, that is ok. Kids will always find ways to get access to things to they are not suppose to have. That is what part of growing up is about. We all have flipped through pornagraphic material, or watched the lastest horror flick even though we were underage. It's about time people start growing up, taking responsibilty for the content our children can access, and not leave it up to a disfuctional government and law system to force feed us the exact same message but with a higher price on our freedoms as an individual.
If we started to enforce these simple rules, that have been layed out for years before with other mediums, we'll also see a change in what is fashionable in the game industry as content. We'll see less violent and sexually explotive games. The industry will want to start producing more content for the larger market that spans children, teens, parents, etc.
I'm getting so sick of this issue with video games and ratings. Grow up people. It's about time we start taking responsibilty for our children, and ourselves.
I agree with what you say. I can't think of anything at art unless it was made out of pure passion, not for profit. Games should be expressed like cars. They are reviewed based on their technical merits mainly. Asthetics come second.
Must be a Radio Shack in the States. I've search all over the shops in Canada. Can't find the adapters. And it's not _that_hard_ to make one. Just need that motivational boost most seem to lack. Cost of building one is just pennies. Assuming you already have a PS2 controller.
The best place I find for hacks and tricks for console mods, and converters (ie. controllers, VGA hacks) is GameSX. The forums are great for new developments, or help in trying to attempt the mods.
If you are interested. I was going to build such a system as you describe. It would be smaller than a nano-itx system as well.

I was going to use a Evalue Tech ECM-3611-a1 3.5" SBC

US$280

MS already does charge for every patch.

One should check you the newly released photographs of Resident Evil 4 for GameCube over on IGN. Now that is grit big time! And it looks amazing.
Er.. nevermind my post. Someone else figured it out. LOL
Oh you are good. :) Many thanks. I had just posted about trying to figure out the stream links. I didn't get anywhere as close as you did, started hitting walls. Excellent job indeed. :)
I've been trying to figure out how the QuickTime streams work on the site.
... /wgbh/nova/elegant/media2/nova_eu_3012c00_ref.mov
... /wgbh/nova/elegant/media2/nova_eu_3012c00_mp4_ref. mov
... /wgbh/nova/elegant/media2/nova_eu_3012c00_hi_ref.m ov ... /wgbh/nova/elegant/media2/nova_eu_3012c00_lo_ref.m ov
e u/ nova_eu_3012c00_lo_ref.mov
This is as much as I've figured out, but still no luck at capturing a stream.
Using StreamBox!VCR and a little research on what the QuickTime streaming protocol is I figured this much out.
By changing the HTTP to RTSP
I copy in the url that I arlready know of: [ "..." is www . pbs . org]
rtsp://
redirects to:
rtsp://
Which gives me these two lovely sources to play with
rtsp://
rtsp://
But I still can't save the stream. Just times out.
And then I get an itching and I get weird errors in my logs. Like this url appended to the urls stated above..
h**p://stream.qtv.apple.com/qtv/wgbh/http/nova_
But that doesn't exist either or with RTSP. Hrmm...

Nice of writer to only mention non-violent games. I always had a kick out of putting myself into GTA3.
Latest news headline "Boy Plans serial killing through Video Game".
It's a nice feature, but I think some of the more instable people in this world are going to use it as an excuse as to why they did things.

Doom 3 is being developed by Id Software. Quake 4 is being developed by Raven Software. Get it?
