To be honest, at the beginning I was very skeptical about the quality of education I would recieve from an online institution. But I didn't really have much choice, so I started shopping around the web for online graduate programs. I was surprised to find that the University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign offers what they call Illinois Internet Computer Science. There are three things I found incredibly interesting about this program:
The degree you get is euqivalent to the on-campus degree (i.e. there's no mention on your degree that you took it online).
The teacher actually gives a lecture to compus students. The lectured is recorded and a video of the lecture along with presentations and PDFs documents are posted online for off-campus students no later than one hour after the class.
UIUC is ranked 4th in the entire country (according to usnews.com).
I only took 2 courses so far, and I am very impressed with how they handle and treat the program. Everyone invloved is very professional. The teachers actually go out of their way to accomodate both on and off campus students. My experience has been extremely pleasant, and I'm very satisfied with what they offer.
Weight! If you consider for example a Boeing 747 or the new Airbus 3xx, can you imagine how much additional weight the cat5 wires will add to the plane?
Also, adding a wireless network does not require rewiring the entire plane. So it's less intrusive and makes connecting any plane in the fleet just a snap. Considering this is just a trial, they wouldn't want to spend all the money on wiring the planes only to decide not to use it anymore in 3 months.
It's not like Hollywood isn't making millions and millions of dollars out of the DVD industry!! If releasing the DVDs is making them lose money, they're delay the release dates of the DVDs.
Plus fine, you're making less money, then reduce the cast salaries and we'll all live happily everafter. Afterall, the Friends cast gets paid a million (yes million) dollars per episode. That's outright sick (i know this is TC not hollywood, but these are the salary figures!).
I attended a lecture by Robert Fisk yesterday. Robert Fisk is a british journalist who writes for the Independent newspaper. He's one of the few journalists that actually tried to answer the why 9-11 as well as the where and what. I advise everyone to read his articles because they have so much depth and insight which is something we rarely get in the media here.
As horrified we are all by what happenned a year ago, we should not forget that things happen for a reason. We should mourn all the lives that were tragically lost last year, but we should try to understand why and try to avoid it in the future. And this is exactly what George Bush is not doing!! Has anybody noticed how, just very recently, Bin Laden has faded out to be replaced by Saddam?! Does anybody mention Bin Laden anymore? Was Saddam mentionned in any way last year after the attacks?! The whole point is, Bush is following his own agenda and driving the world into more dangerous territories, instead of trying to learn from what happenned. Unfortunately, I fear the worst:(
