Of course, I don't think any would support the idea that this project was done with *only* the kids in mind....take a look at the picture of when they finally got the body hoisted up on top of the legs....those aren't kids raising their arms in triumph!
This is like trying to convince your significant other that, yes, we should buy a PS2 because then we'd have a DVD player always hooked up to our TV! It really is in YOUR interest, right honey?
Microsoft responded that the Iowa lawsuit went against federal law, which says only "direct purchasers," such as computer makers who buy Windows 98 from Microsoft, can recover damages for antitrust violations.
Hmph...and then I guess it's up to these **direct purchasers** to ensure that the money trickles down to the consumers that are immediately affected by the anti-trust violations. Shows you were everyone's priorities lie, hm?
Gee, instead of leaving this tracking device in my desk, I'll take it with me when I decide to do something wrong.
Of course, nothing would stop me from taking my free tracking device, planting it in my friend's backpack, and seeing if they really are going out to that gay-club...or to my girlfriend's dormroom, or whatever.
You don't need to let anyone track your device if you don't want them to, but now everyone has immediate access to a moblie, and plantable, tracking device.
I was also hyped up on dayquil all day..staring at a computer with little to no work to do. The post was stupid, yeah yeah yeah.
But what a response, eh? God...if you come across shit, don't read it! Mod it down! Harrassing people is just childish..
Off topic..whatever. I don't think I care anymore. Community my asshole.
The original intent of this post was supposed to reflect the frustration of having a police car parked in front of my apt for days waiting for someone to steal it and having to park around the block or something....obviously, my dayquil brain couldn't get anything across. Stupid dayquil/allergies.
I've been doped up all day on Dayquil and I'm blaming it for that post (read: hyperjumpy-things.don't.make.much.sense/that's what you get for working a job where you've got nothing to do all day but still get paid an hourly wage so there's not enough justification to just go home).
If it weren't for the cops, I'd probably be dead considering where I live.
I was going to hold a pep-rally for myself as a victim of APTroll-Attacks, but then realized that, well......you know.
Matter of fact, the +1 bonus was unintentional...karma just got up to 25 and I posted without realizing that the bonus is automatically applied without saying you don't want it applied.
Nothing, and that's the beauty of MS's strategy. Windows releases are always endorsed by celebrities, big promo events, etc etc (didn't 'The Rock' help plug Windows XP?). When Microsoft, the OS company, releases a new version or updates their old products, everyone has to have it...regardless of how well their old systems (whether that's hardware or software) work to fit their needs.
The sad thing is that with Microsoft's recent anti-trust woes, company execs just don't have that same pep, and arrogance of the past. They've become almost too nice and friendly.
If reading Slashdot, surfing the web, and thinking newspapers are nothing more than corporate whores makes you a demi-god, then you take the cake!
I wonder if these poor fucks to which you're referring bring any value into the world at all? After all, the internet, computers, software, etc all have intrinsic value, right? All other focus is folly.
Sanitation engineers (that's right, garbagemen) probably exploit me in some way too...but I don't have a way to get that garbage away from my house (in the city) without their help. If I see my friend downloading and 'agreeing' to an obviously sketchy program, I'll probably tell him to think twice--cause I can help him out with places that I know a thing or two about.
Maybe they should do what newspapers do and dumb it down a bit so that it'd be shorter and a easier read then more people would be better informed..
Yeah! With big colorful pictures! Go USA Today! ...wait...The Wall Street Journal has color too?
I wish the M$ service agreement was dictated to you entirely by that charming little paperclip thing...then I'm sure everything would be crystal clear.
"The question is not whether people read and understand (terms-of-service agreements)--of course they don't--but whether they can be enforced," said Cern Kaner, an attorney specializing in software legislation who teaches computer science at the Florida Institute of Technology. "I don't think that companies should have the right to spy on you without your actual permission, but I think it will be hard...to prosecute companies who do engage in this type of practice if you have actually clicked on an agreement that gives them permission."
I'm wondering if anyone DOES know the legal implications of those service agreements. When those long agreements pop-up before installation, not only does no one read them, but you agree to the thing by clicking on either 'yes' or 'no' buttons....is a yes/no button a legally binding clause? They do not, at any point, get your signature nor is the agree monitored by anything other than the installation program itself (i'm assuming, anyway).
I don't know...I'm curious..thoughts?

Coding Fair Use

What's progressive is technology, which makes hash of attempts to control content.
This is what it all comes down to, in my opinion. The rate at which things change in regards to technology, and thus web-related issues, is astronomically fast when compared to the evolution of our current economical system (where copyright laws take hold). Trying to constraint the content of something that changes so quickly isn't feasible. The people who are likely proposing such measures are most likely the people that don't really understand the implications of it (that could be expressed by IT-savvy individuals with a background in law/commerce).
There may be some general statements we can make, and even some extreme cases that we can easily restriction, but creating steadfast regulations that are intended to be applied wholesale ain't gonna cut it.
increased scalability, speed and functionality at a lower cost
A lower cost? Hell...maybe I'll pick one up after work today. With a price tag of only 24.5 million, you're actually making money with this purchase (or, as cases dictate, losing money by not taking advantage of this offer)!
Sheesh. I think 'reduced' cost is more appropriate.
You know, this kind of thing isn't that unusual (in principle anyway). Go to China and music is distributed (whether that's domestic or imported labels) without paying any regard to copyrights, etc etc etc. A forever and constant -twang- in the sides of capitalist artists.
The Confucian influence is, after all, good for some things, eh?

Anonymous, and mean. I haven't felt offended in a while.....and definitely thought that I'd feel offended coming off of Slashdot!
So it goes..
shit....I did it again.
Matter of fact, the +1 bonus was unintentional...karma just got up to 25 and I posted without realizing that the bonus is automatically applied without saying you don't want it applied.
So calm down. Yikes.
..and if I see this thing parked in front of my apt, it's so keyed.
Not MS.
Not the Microsoft Passport.
Microsoft Passport technology.
Still scary, but an important difference.

Effective marketing, goddman them all.
Yeah...my thoughts exactly.
And then ground your kid for a week....just so it will stick in court.

Deutschland hat angst von Google! Schade!
Crap! At last I thought I'd have a way to call 911 for free...
I guess 911 would have trouble tracing a call to 66.96.178.192...
no...they have to be of age to be murdered while naked. That's the distinction here.
The Confucian influence is, after all, good for some things, eh?
The Master said, "Groove."
Twenty years? I guess my old Commodore might become useful after all.
20 years? Is this an accurate statement? I'm skeptical of anyone's testimony when Bill Gates *asks them to testify* on MS's behalf.
