    This is a serious question!

What's the reason to run Solaris on x86 instead of Linux or Free/Open/Net BSD? From what I've heard it's slower and has much less support for hardware, besides the fact that it's so conservative that I often bang my head on the desk and install GNU stuff on all Solarisboxes we have at work..

The only reason I can think of is to learn it so one can put "Solaris" on the "list of things I know" when looking for a new job...

We don't want WMA to be spread more than necessary.. Simple as that! This is good because it lets us listen to legacy files until everyone has switched to encoding only non-patented Vorbis files..

  5. Re:Why not MIT X license instead of GPL? on ffmpeg: Free Software's WMA decoder · · Score: 2

Those licenses are for companies that just take and take and never gives back.. I think the LGPL is perfect for this kind of stuff! If you want to use it, go ahead, but give back your improvements! If you don't want to do that, go ahead and reimplement it yourself, just like you would have to do if the ffmpeg people hadn't implemented it at all... Or maybe you can PAY the ffmpeg people for a license to include it without giving back code, just like you would have to do if it was reimplemented by some closed source company... The weird thing is that I don't think you would complain about it then.,..

Sorry.. Last time I looked at wx it only was a GUI kit.. I admit that that was over 2 year ago though.. It might have changed since then.. If it's true, that's great!

Anyway, my point was that he should design it crossplatform from the start instead of Windows-only and then try to make it run in an "emulator" (yes, "reimplementation of the win32 api", i know) afterwards..

  7. Cute on Developing WINE-Friendly Windows Software? · · Score: 4, Insightful

I have a better suggestion! Use Qt instead! That way you can compile your software with little or no changes for Windows, MacOS-X and Linux/Unix, and get the native look and feel on all platforms..

There are alternative crossplatform GUI-kits such as wxWindows, GTK2, FLTK and more, but they are only GUI-kits. Qt is a complete development plattform with crossplattform support for databases, networking, components, regexps, OpenGL, localization and much more, besides just the look and feel...

The thing is that I actually LIKE getting disgusted! ;) I like filth! I like virtual violence! The nastier and filthier the better! There are no limits in the virtual world!

In IRL though, I have never been in a fight since I was about 6 or 8 years old. Not once! And I've been out partying on average maybe 3 times a week since I was 15, and I'm 25 now.. I've been into the punkscene, gothscene, industrial scene and metal scene.. My hair is a black mohawk. I often wear makeup, plastic clothes and sometimes even highheel boots.. I almost always hang out with goths, industrials, punks, hippies, transvestites and other non-mainstream "genres" of people.. I also often go to BDSM- and fetish-clubs.. I know that many people just reading this post are thinking "I want to beat this sick fuck up", but still, I haven't been in a fight NOT EVEN ONCE for the last 17 years or something.. Surely it happens all the time that people want to fight with me, and it's always the "suit people" who do, but I can always just ignore them and walk away or talk myself out of it and calm them down...

What I wanted to say was, although a bit too verbose, that I'm kind of the opposite of violent. Still I love watching filthy gore-movies and play ultraviolent computergames. Not ANYONE should tell me what I can do and not do, as long as I don't step on others toes (if they don't want to be stepped on, that is *G*)... If you don't agree with that, you're just being narrowminded, or a control-freak. Or both.
