I posted something similar to this under another thread, but, the same thing happened to me. As a Canadian without a 'dish', I watched the game on cable. Simulcast with crappy local commercials. I did, however, go somewhere else for halftime, and saw a couple good commercials there because they had DirectTV or whatever.

    You Americans get all the good TV. (-;

Every year when the super bowl rolls around, I get more and more pissed off. I live in Canada, and while you lucky americans get to see the $2M + $Production commercials, we get to see the ever popular "Cunard Restaurant" (a $99 dollar commercial, including production (-; ) and Taylor Ford (some tool with their Hi8 taking bad product shots of a local car dealership). ABC was simulcast last night onto a channel called Global. This happens for a lot of shows, and it's completely ridiculous. I hate our cheap commercials that the broadcasters here show because it's cheaper or because of the stupid Canadian Content laws.

    I hate the CRTC.

Uhm. Someone should check into this. If a file is not in the user's listed mp3's or their chosen directory, does the napster client still send it?

Also, the article shows that when requesting a file, the client sends the full path name, but no info is given when SENDING a file. I wonder if something like "SEND ../../../../../../../../autoexec.bat" would work.

I could be completely wrong here, but, I figure large chains (like Blockbuster) make a killing off of late fees.

To rent at Blockbuster, where I live, it's $5.28CDN taxes in. A little steep. BUT, it's also another $5.28 for every night that I forget to take it back. And without doubt, almost every time I go to block buster, I have a late charge.

Now, with blockbuster pulling in double for late charges, and usually with sufficient overstock anyway, why would they want to go with a technology that could end up not making as much money. If you ask me, rental stores will shun this technology. And that's just one reason that it won't ever make mainstream.

  11. Re:Makes You Think on Microsoft Hotmail Domain Reward Check on E*Bay · · Score: 1

I worked for a large (large is a relative term here, I live in New Brunswick) company last year, and the logic behind this is pretty simple.

Say for instance that we have $500,000 in bills to pay on February 1st. We know that our grace period is 15 days. So, in theory, all bills SHOULD be paid by Feb. 16 at the latest. We also know from past experience, that we're a good client, and our unofficial grace period is usually extended another 10 days, making these bills due Feb. 26. The thinking behind this is: I have $1/2 million gaining intrest in my account. If I pay on Feb. 1, that money is no longer gaining intrest for me. If I wait until the last possible moment, and pay on Feb. 26, that 1/2 mil will pay me for an extra 26 days.

Makes sense to me. Although, this doesn't work when the accounting dept. tries to stretch out the grace period past the hard boundary on the other end. We also almost had domains cancelled because of this type of thinking.

Upon reading about the merger, I didn't think it was a big deal. It wasn't until a few minutes ago that I look at the guy I work with and said "I'm scared of this whole AOL/TimeWarner thing."

Think about it. AOL is one of the most dominant forces on the 'net, and Time Warner is one of the most dominant forces in the rest of our media.

What if this new company wanted to fabricate media content. They'd own Magazines, Radio, Television, Newspaper, a well visited Website, an online News Service. They even have the ability to produce Motion Picture based propoganda, and distribute it heavily.

What if they decided to offer media time/space 'really cheap' to governmental organizations, presidential candidates? The media machine could have the power to pass laws!

Unbiased news sources could become a thing of the past. With a merger worth 350 _B_illion dollars, they can afford to squash/buy pretty much any other news organization who doesn't do their bidding.

Would we ever hear anything bad about AOL's service, CNN's reputableness (is that a word?), or Ted Turner?

If this is true, Virus(computer) is most likely an English word, and no official linguistic rules have been made for it.

The beauty of the English language is that we are free to modify it to suit our needs. It's adaptable, and if we feel like spelling the plural of virus, virii, viruses or vira, it should be accepted.

The way I see it, in biology, it's unlikely to see one viral cell. Virus seems like it would be plural already. I'm probably totally wrong in this paragraph.

For instance, I work a a graphic design firm (and we're doing new media now). In addition to our regular backups last week, we were also informed that we were to make additional backups. Three sets on three different types of media. You see, the owner was paranoid because of what he read in his business magazines, or saw on NBC. Paranoid to the point that I had to go in last Friday to physically UNPLUG from our network pipe. He was afraid that, at midnight, virii would infest our system and eat all our data. I informed him that it was impossible for virii to 'eat' the data that we had on CDRom, but he insisted, and I humoured him.
We're a graphic design agency for heaven's sake. It's not like we had sensitive accounting information for Fortune 500 companies. I assured him that our vector art would survive.
Nevertheless, we currently have very good backups of our data from last year.
