It's certainly more powerful than anything on the desktop now, but by the time it's released a year from now, it looks to be middle-of-the-pack (which could still be a step up for Apple...)

What the hell is the point of designing a computer that you know will not be able to compete performance-wise against the very market you are trying to win over? Why would I want to switch to a less powerful system? If it's the alleged ease-of-use vs. Windows, forget it. People would have already bought Macs in droves.

Here's my first real opportunity to burn some karma:

    1. Create a computer using a CPU that's less powerful for more money than the competition.

Any posts claiming Apple computers are slower than PCs shouldn't be labeled as trolls or flamebait.

There could be a "no vote" option at the polls. However, I doubt that many people would choose that option if they actctually HAD to make a choice. Politicians aren't looking for political education, flat tax, term limits or anything else that might jepordize their careers.

All we have to do is simply get people to vote, period. Politicians only listen to people that vote for them and/or give them money. That basically means that they listen to only a small minority of the population. My philosphy used to be "if you're stupid enough not to vote, then your opinions don't count." I still don't disagree with that idea, it's just that politicians no longer look to comprimise. They just play to their particular base of supporters that gaurentee them a vote. The only solution is to make it a law that every citizen MUST vote.

  18. More registers are not enough. on Revolutionizing x86 CPU Performance · · Score: 4, Informative

The whole gist of the article has to do with the x86's lack of general purpose registers. While this is true, you're not going to solve all of the x86 shortcomings simply by figuring out a way to add more of them. There are MANY things wrong with the x86 design; GP registers are just one of them. There's an entire section in the famous Patterson book that goes into all of the issues in much more detail than I care to state here.

Besides, there's already more efficient (albiet complex) solutions to extend registers that make much more sense in the current world of pipelined processors. Register renaming is one such example.

"The digital broadcasts will be free, unlike the subscriber services offered by Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio Holdings, which beam music and talk to radios from satellites."

Yeah, until they want to start offering "Premium" channels.

"Supporters say the new technology will bring CD-quality sound to FM broadcasts, an end to static for AM and new data features."

The term CD-quality gets thrown around to loosely. I'm assuming the stream uses a lossy compression scheme like streaming MP3, OGG, etc. It may be good, but probably not truly CD quality.

EBay is no different than the For Sale section in the newspaper. If I get ripped off by some guy selling his car in the newspaper, who am I gonna sue? The guy or the Daily News?

The only liability I see is the whole Power Seller rating system. This kind of implies that EBay deems this person a good seller and thus is promoting the seller above others.
