  1. New Mexico. on Stepping Off of the Grid? · · Score: 1

I live in texas and every summer my family and I take a trip up too new mexico. We go to a house we inherited deep in the mountains. we don't get cell phone service or more than 1.5 channels on the tv at best. I can't get the internet or even dialup because every ISP is long distance. To combat the boredom I run around Riudoso and go to the Magic Mushroom shop all the time. I also attempt to be a cowboy. a few summers ago I started riding horses and this summer I will learn how to rope steers.

  2. problem solved! on Always-On Internet For Cheapskates? · · Score: 1

about 2 months ago the modem on my PC burned out for only god knows what reason. I could have replaced it with another modem but my video card takes up 2 slots and my RAID card takes up another slot and my NIC's taking up last slot. so I couldn't replace it. So I just got an old 1 gig athlon machine I had lying around and set it up to permanently dial in and set it up to always restart, always connect and all that stuff. then I just got some cat5 and ran it between the computers and presto! I know have an "always on" dialup connection. Though since I live out in the sticks it could technically be termed an "always on" dialup connection with half the speed, lol

  3. My proposed E-Voting Method on Berkeley Researchers Analyze Florida Voting Patterns · · Score: 2

Vote on a computer and the computer punches out a card that is easy to read and then it gets put into a box like normal and the computer only registers a vote so it can give an approximation how many people voted and who got the most votes. Their would be a paper trail and it would get rid of hanging chads and all other kinds of BS. If the total from the machines and the total from the cards don't match then there could be reason to go back and audit the paper votes again. You could also be given a voter e-card that stores who you voted for. So if the vote is called into question big time or something happens to the cards the government can hold a revote in said precincts where everybody puts their cards back into the vote box and they get counted. Also to keep the voter anonomous the card would only be given a serial number that random and details only specific information that can't single anyone out but can single a vote and precinct and everything else out. Also the only way to vote is to apply for an E-card 30 days in advance. It could even be tied into a persons id card or drivers license. just my idea and it needs refining and I really need a spellcheck /grammercheck lol

  4. Judge Dredd! on Hardware That Recognizes You · · Score: 1

Remember the movie "Judge Dredd?" He was accused of murdering these people and convited because his gun said it was him even though his clone/bro or who ever it was did it. In the future this is exactly what could happen to us gun owners.

Also Biometrics/PIN#'s/Cods are a poor poor poor way to handle gun control. The way to go should be strict tests to confirm sanity, A look at a persons criminal record (ie: criminals who have commited a felony in the past can't own a gun until they go through lots of therapy and have a shrink sign a paper saying that they can handle a gun.), and they should have a one strike and your out rule. ie, if you commit a crime with a gun then you lose your right to own, carry and operate a gun.

I wonder if when human beings are granted say an infinite lifespan through technology that the government will start regulating our lifespan, say we can only live a maximum of 200 years before our steel bodies have to be recycled and they delete us and place someone new in them

Has anyone else noticed the crappy box this DVD came in. Its the most flimsy thing I've ever seen and its all I can do to keep it safe. The Lord of the Rings Special edition boxes are the way to go. Hardback box sets are the only way to do DVD box sets
