Medical Doctors work years to learn their field. no one gets through school ouside 6 years, and that's the insane outside nerd. most take 8 years. so, not any schmoe can be a doctor. any schmoe can be a programmer. pick up a book, learn the language, the logic, and bam! you can program. well, look around for how to exploit some things, learn to use whatever language to do so, and you have a self taught hacker or whatever they wanna be. you don't see a self taught doctor anywhere, do you?
just look at university communities. through gaming and other 'real' activities, i've met many people. check out www.ecliptik.com and its forums. this is a widespread phenomenon, really.
we've takin ideas from them before... how about the magnetic slingshot built on the side of a mountain to "throw" materials into space? of course, with something like 100 Gs, humans would have to use another method...
reminds me of a student in yale who looked up an obscure rule, which was originally written in latin, that stated the prof must feed the students food and wine during exams. they comprimised to coke and some cake. [p][p][p][/p][/p][/p] the next test, the prof called him on another obscure rule that the students must bring a sword to exams.[p][p][p][/p][/p][/p]my point being, is M$ gonna get bit in the butt right back? i think so...
I don't see how sound can have that much power behind it without being insanely loud. i remember one example. if i yelled at this coffee cup, and all the energy of my voice went into heat, and was not lost at all, it'd take 15 days to heat it up.
sure, shock waves have different properties with liquids and the such, but i can't see that how a process that before has taken fission and/or insane amounts of heat can be started by such a weak power source, no matter what scale or what properties it has.
Hey, i'm looking for a job, and oh man, i just can't wait to have that new MMM bopper boy band CD. that's just my focus on life right now!
oh wait, maybe i should try to feed the kids and keep the mortgage and pay insurance and...

a little off topic, but still civil liberties...
i just watched "Enemy of the State," and my god, it's suprising how 9/11 is reflected in that movie. they talk about passing bills for "national security" and basically every bit of the aftermath of 9/11.
personally, i would rather have randome advertising companies have information about me (to a degree), than the government. with a business, they can just try to get me to buy stuff. with the government, they can arrest me, fine me, put me in jail. most of you probably have an illegal mp3 or two laying around, and you know it. imagine just having one, and being busted by cops for it.
now, if they could only detect if there was a cs player cheating and arrest them...
I'm a student as well, and at my university, we have a school run cable service that's free. we can't get any other channels like HBO and showime or whatever. so, it's impossible for us to get sex and the city legally (unless we buy a slew of DVD's.. even if they have all the episodes...yeh right)
BUT, we have this nifty network, ranked something like 21st in the country by yahoo. so, people can download episodes. is this so wrong? legally, probably yes. morally and ethically? probably not.
@ u of dayton that is

i'm just waiting for that one... "Ancient 2nd century Inuit boat found off the coast of Portugual. Have found settlement nearby."
i can see this being used in bigger cases, such as if aol actually buys some open source o/s, then manipulates it to a disgusting end like this
