    As a naturalized citizen of the United of America I can tell you that there is *NOTHING* we, the voters of American, can effectively do, to change the system.

    The system is so entrenched, with its roots dug so deep into so many fields, affecting so many people's livelihoods, that even if 90% of the voters (who do go out to vote) of the America decide that "Enough is enough", that is still NOTHING we can do !

    "Vote them out", you say ?

    When you vote them out, who would you vote in to replace them ?

    The whole scenario of a supposedly "Two Party System" is a sham.

    They are JUST THE SAME OLD SHIT, like two sides of a same coin.

    Whether we vote Republicans or for Democrats, we vote for the same fucking system.

    "Vote for somebody else then," you say.

    Who ?

    Third party ? Libertarians ?

    I *AM* a libertarian, but even me know that the "Libertarian party" is worse than a fucking joke.

    Every single day the system fill us with nonsensical topics such as "abortion", "welfare abuses", "prayer in the school" and so on, so to occupy our attention.

    So we have the line drawn in between the people along the line of "Pro Life" vs "Pro Choice", and people having protests over "Gay Parade" (on both sides), and so what ?

    I mean, those are the devices that the fucking system used to divert attention AWAY from the hundreds of millions of morons living in America anyway.

    I am sorry to say that, for even I, as an American, have to admit that there are just too many morons in America and we have been moronic for way too long.

    The so-called "Constitution" is no more.

    Yes, there is still a piece of paper with the "We, the people..." written on it, but it might be as well printed "Made in China" on back, because the system doesn't give a fuck of that piece of paper anymore.

    Do I sound pissed ? Sure I am !

    But what the fuck more can I do ?

    That is the "familiar confrontational 60 Minutes style"

    I escaped from communist China in the early 1970's, and when I landed on the United States of America, I was totally awed by many things that I could never ever dream of when I was in China.

    One of those was the integrity of the journalists of the United States of America.

    The Vietnam War was on at that time, and there was plenty of "Patriotism" in America in such that "if you don't agree with us you get outta here" attitude, but yet, there were journalists who braved the societal norm in reporting (and printing the news in the newspapers) what actually took place in Vietnam.

    Many of those journalists were called "traitors" and they were treated as "Viet Cong Supporters" back then, but yet, their integrity remained intact and report the news as it was (not the propaganda the government wanted them to report).

    And the subsequent episode of the dethronement of Richard (I am not a crook) Nixon because of the "deep throat" saga.

    I was totally awed by the bravery and the diamond-hardened integrity of those American journalists.

    Today ? American journalism ?

    Ptuuuuiiii !!

    Shoppers (more than 40 millions of them) who used their credit cards in Target are all running scared, and many will go to their banks to exchange their existing credit cards for a new one.

    And the banks gonna change those poor credit cards owner a "service charge".

    Even if the "service charge" is only $50 per card, for 40 million cards we are looking at a $2 billion dollar extra revenue for the banks !

    I am not from India, so I have no way to know how much in term of safety the Indian space missions put in nor the accounting practice in India.

    But I can tell you this ...

    1. The group of Indian engineers and technicians must be WORLD CLASS to successfully send out a space probe on its way to Mars.

    World class professionals don't come cheap, and world class professionals are not dumb either.

    For sure, they must be paid handsomely even when they work INSIDE INDIA - You think they are that stupid that they are willing to be paid "peanuts" inside India while they can rake in much more moolah if they work in either USA or Europe ?

    2. The space craft Orbitals sent up is a "transportation module" that carried some 3,000 pounds of stuffs. In other words, that space craft is a disposable cargo container that is NOT designed for human cargo, and the "safety issue" you mentioned won't be a priority either.

    3, Accounting

    I do not think the accounting practice in India is _that_ different from the accounting practice in other countries.

    Or, to put it in another way --- Why should India lie about the cost for their space program ?

    I may be wrong in this, but unless someone can provide me the benefit India may reap if it lies about the cost of their space program, I trust the figure as was reported.

    Try this, if you are a guy in tech who doesn't get it: When you encounter a reasonably good-looking (by your standards) woman with a similar professional background, is your thought process about her professional work (e.g. language or OS choices, server configurations, algorithm ideas), or is your thought process about how you might be able to get her into bed? If it's about her work, congratulations, you aren't part of the problem

    I have been in the tech field since the 1970's, and my children (both male and female) are also in the tech field.

    Since you're talking about how women have been treated and seems to place the blame solely on the male group - why don't you ask the female why they dropped out so easily in the first place ?

    Sure, my girls (more than one), when they were studying, did face some of those awkward situations, but they toughed it out.

    For them, their gender doesn't give them any reason to play the role of the "victim" every time a male geek tried to make some nerdy advance on them.

    And my children are not the exception either. Many of the Asian kids, both male and female, toughed out all kinds of harassment (not only sexual, but also racial) because for them what is important is not the hindrance, but how to achieve the goal.

    Just because your culture brought up females who will run out crying at a drop of a hat does not make the male species guilty of whatever you allude them of doing !

    What is the percentage of the Asians (particularly the yellow-skinned East Asians and the Asians from the Indian Subcontinent) vis-a-vis the percentage of the Latinos-Americans / African-Americans, of the entire population of the United States of America ?

    I am willing to bet my bottom dollar that the Asian-Americans will be the fewest of the three groups.

    Would that entitle them with the term of " MINORITIES " ?

    Apparently TFA doesn't think so.

    Look at the enrollment of the Asians (men and women) in the tech courses and you will see how ridiculous TFA is.

    In some EE classes, there are MORE female Asian students than male African-Americans attending.

    Care to explain to me why Slashdot carries such crappy "news" in the first place ??

    It's not exactly a field where there is going to be a diversity of competition, not for the immediate future anyway

    I sincerely hope that there will be * MORE * competitors.

    Look at the cost ...

    Orbital has a $1.9 billion contract with NASA to make eight flights to the space station under the space agency's commercial supply program

    For each of the delivery NASA is shelling out more than $237.5 million.

    The Indian space project cost India a total of $81 million .

    While there are some saying that the Indian space program to Mars only cost $74 million, even with the higher price tag of $81 million it is still ONE THIRD of the price of Nasa is paying Orbital !!

    In the 1990's a communication satellite belonging to China was hacked and the hackers (rumored to be a state-sponsored hacker group) changed the tee vee channels on that satellite to carry anti CCP programs.

    Almost 20 years have passed and nobody claimed responsibility over that incident, but it is believed that the hacker group was sponsored by some state (nation) because it does take quite a bit more ooomph in term of beaming power in order to hack into a satellite orbiting the Earth.

    As for that particular Chinese communication satellite, China tried to "unhack" that bird but failed. So China took the "Plan B" route - they junked that bird, shut everything on that satellite down and now it's floating up there doing nothing.

    I've been in this field for decades, and there have been far too many similar cases, like the one that TFA is reporting, happened to too many innocent people.

    All of them committed one very sinful mistake - they report the flaws to the authority, the WRONG way.

    If you ever discover any vulnerability of any official website / db / whatever, don't tell them, and don't tell the media either.

    Most of the reporters are spineless creeps who suck up to the power-that-be.

    Instead, you have two options -

    1. Keep quite.

    2. "leak" the info to some hacking circle and let others do the job for you.

    If you ever take the 2nd option, you do need to know how to wipe off all your online traces (mag address, ip address, and so on) so nobody, not even the hackers, can trace you.
