XP Pro (W/AT&T voices, Office language Bar W/Word, firefox W/Foxy Voice) and OSX are a bit more polished. But I had a similar voice recognition/TTS setup in 1993. And what I concluded was that it is far simpler to interact physically (double click) with a GUI than to tell the computer to double click. What is needed is a different type of interface for speech to take off mainstream. However it is sad that Windows will not read dialog boxes. And that's a pretty obvious useful feature that the Mac has enjoyed since system 7 or 8! Windows is the norm with the largest desktop penetration. And the norm blows in this case. Just like the m-i-c-r-o-s-oft s-a-m voice. There were better TTS voices available to System 6.0.8! Ouch! This is one of the few areas that the Mac people truly and justly get to laugh at the PC.
I wouldn't debunk Evolution like it's a traveling freakshow. But if it's disagreement you want then look no further than other Evolutionary scientists. For example some cling to the idea that change happens over time. Others think changes in structure and form occur more quickly. Just attend a debate between these two camps and you'll have all the holes in the theory that you are looking for. But then again it's not like Evolution is a cogent theory. People seem to think Evolution is one theory. But in fact it's just bits of theories, none of which fit together.
I consider myself a scientist because I follow the scientific method. You can too. I believe in the big bang because there is an enormous amount of evidence that it occurred. Evolution however has spotty supporting evidence at best. Just because you can't prove how we got here does not mean you have to believe in some form of creator. "I don't know" is the basis of science. But many people can't get their head around that. Humans seem to need something to believe in. The need to understand and classify the world around us is a very strong drive. And we don't take very well to being questioned. When you tell someone they are wrong about a fundamental thing like this, you get a very strong reaction don't you. I could go into great detail about why Evolutionary theory is full of bunk. But I'd only get flamed. Science is the new religion of our age. Standard religion is on the wane. Hope against hope that an inquisition doesn't start. Because that's what humans do. If you don't believe that, just read these posts. A great shame on all of you for your lack of vision and imagination. The truth of our origins may be going unexplored. It is my hope that science may soon change fundamentally what is means to be human through genetics.
The Bush administration passed on the.XXX domain. And that would have made it far simpler to block 70% or more porn websites. If they passed a law requiring all porn sites to move to the new domain then they could all be blocked. Foreign sites would be unaffected of course, hence the 70%. But authorizing a XXX domain would have legitimized porn I guess. But do you need google's cache to prove people are looking up porn? I thought everyone knew in terms of traffic it goes Porn...spam...P2P...Star Trek. Maybe he wants to check both Internets:-)
I used to work at a large Telecom that had DC power. Every month two techs would go check the power room. It involved all sorts of fiddling. I asked them what that wooden bat was doing hanging at the ready. "That's for if you get stuck. DC won't let you go. And you'll need the other guy to wack you with the bat and save your life." They were probobly generating and storing a lot more DC than most. But it's still something to keep in mind.
There were reasons that these powers granted by the Act were withheld. If you haven't been affected by the patriot act. And you feel it is necessary to have such power granted to law enforcement, then I'm asking you to rent an A&E biography covering J. Edgar Hoover. Or maybe you can catch something on another cable show etc. Either way that show will contain pretty much all you need to know about the USA Patriot Act.
Yea that's a good idea about the camera. Intel thought they had the most secure system in the world. No removable media. Only one workstation contained the data. And it wasn't networked. On top of that it was in a secure location. So the thief on the inside brought in his camera and took a picture of the screen....hit page down....take a picture...hit page down.... Low tech but it smuggled all the designs for the Pentium chip out and over to China.
My friend had a Prius and I drove it quite a lot. I would say it had great pickup. It at least as good as and average 4 cylinder car. It wouldn't pin you in the seat. But initially you could definately feel the inertia. It does not turn off the air when in battery mode. For all purposes it was like a normal car. No space constraints. Braking took some getting used to because you can feel the generator kick in. And it has a different kind of drag than brake pad on rotor. The brakes are just very sensitive. She was warned never to touch any yellow wire under the hood. And there are a lot of them. So electric shock could be a downside. One wonders what standing water would do.....
Even though a modern OS doesn't need it. It's still pretty important. It allows you to tweak out your machine. Overclock, set quick post options, etc. There is definately some really poor BIOS out there. Phoenix BIOS in my experience is the worst. Award seems to be the best. BIOS quality seems to be dependent on who made the board. POSTing speed needs to improve. That's my big gripe. I want to leave you with one nugget of knowledge though. If you remove the BIOS and access whatever is left through the OS. And that OS is XP. What you will be left with is a Macintosh. I left the Mac 6 years ago because of things like, booting into my OS to access my BIOS. (PRAM in the Macs case)
It's all about selling yourself. So it depends on who you are interviewing with. Doctors and lawyers want that degree. I wouldn't waste my time with a masters. If your future employer actually knows something about computers, they will want to see real deal experience. Even for the Cert/Degree snobs, real experience speaks volumes. So you can see where my opinions lie. But after having said that, I did finally break down and get an A+ certification. Even though I am a Lan Administrator and I make a lot of money, I want to caution you. I am grandfathered in. Meaning I watched the computer industry grow up. So I know a lot. And I have a long list of good refernces. But it isn't always enough for some people. Don't count on being as lucky. 4 year degree, MCSE and Cisco certification would pretty much do it for you. Information Technology is kind of a hard racket to break into quickly. Find a good job market. Go to school there. Get an internship. Get a job. Make them pay for your certifications. You might look into ITT technical institute. I think you can get certifications as part of your tuition.
I bet you wish someone would repond with usefull information. Here is what you should do. Make a "sample" to be measured. I don't know what you are trying to measure. Making up a perfect example is difficult because of that. But you will have accurate measurements of the "sample" because you have measured it with standard means. Scan the sample with the equipment you need to callibrate. (scanner, camera, etc..)
Does the data from the flatbed scanner match what you know to be true about the sample? If it does so after a few tries, it is suitable for your purposes. It probobly won't. Experiment with different scanner settings and other software suites. You are probobly interested in the raw data from the scan. Many scanning programs will perform touch-ups on the image for photograpic purposes. This will throw your data off. It's possible that the equipment won't work for your purposes. But this procedure will help you find out.

Use Google to search for punctuated equilibrium and familiarize yourself with the theory.
