I really think the only reason Windows is "ready to use out of the box" is that modern hardware is designed with Windows in mind. M$ forces the hardware manufacturers to do things "the Microsoft way" through market bullying tactics. In many ways, my ubuntu installation worked as well out of the box as any Windows XP installation ever has on my machine. And for the record, even m$ products don't work right out of the box for "the average computer user." I did microsoft tech support for a long time, and I can tell you that many "average users" (ie, shouldnt own a computer) are not happy with an OS installation process no matter how easy it is. For my money, Ubuntu does everything it should for a desktop system and gets most of it right.
This may not be worth my time, but a logical person will at once see that point "8. deliberately causing children to starve to death is cruel." is a judgement based on personal belief, and not a scientific fact. Cruelty cannot be proven or disproven based on science, since it is an ethical argument. The belief that "God is not cruel" is a statement based on the belief that all action or inaction on his behalf is motivated by something other than cruelty. Therefore any logic argument proving cruelty can be immediately argued away by saying "God is not cruel, therefore..."
Although I agree with your posts in the sense that rollplaying is more than just taking the part of a character in a predefined storyline (read, FFX), I do not agree that this can only be done in the "pen and paper" medium. I would like to introduce the topic of MMORPGs at this point. I may have agreed with your opinion after playing FFIX, but not after being an EQ addict for over a year... I don't think any other game has put me ni the roll of the character I am playing more than EQ did.., pen and paper games included! I am starting to think that in order to create a genuine rollplaying experience, your character needs to have interaction with other characters that have actions as unpredictable as your own. In a MMO game, this is possible. I have played several such games, and the experience is incredible! The future of RPGs is online with other live people.

I am reading this right now, and have found it very helpful in building good Java programming habits.

Not a TV show, but I saw a Dell commercial where the IT man is talking to the CEO, and mentions Linux clusters.
