I say we shoot the fucking thing out of the sky.. Shoot it out of the sky and make it land on the French. That way, we'll be killing two birds with one stone.
Today it's virus scanners, tomorrow it will be firewalls.
Even if I was dumb enough to execute it, a trojan horse is useless on my machine because I've setup a firewall to allow only specific ports to transmit or receive data.
This sort of thing will be the FBI's next gripe, and no doubt we'll have developers bending down ass over tea kettle to accomodate them.
Just how secure is your security software if these people are going to allow these kinds of holes to be implemented?
But then again, I guess you could ask Microsoft*cough* the same question. They seem to have gotten away with it for so long.
It would be more feasable to run port scans for machines that are infected by the FBI's own software and try connecting to it.
The key here is finding out which port their software is listening on and writing an app that will interface with it. Depending on the encryption they're using during transfer, it could be a lot easier just to gain access to their software rather than reverse engineer McAfee's scanner or write a trojan horse from scratch.
...are nearly as good as putting a foot in their mouth as Michael is.
"I have two reactions - one, someone still uses OS/2?"
It seems like we have a new snide remark to look forward to with every article he writes. After he's finished alienating the computer world, what is next, Arab jokes?
And how are they ripping people off?
They are providing a product, and people who are willing to pay for said product may do so.
No one is holding a gun to your head.

That tends to happen when you guys moderate each other up all the time.
"you're a spammer"
You Adequacy boys have always had a knack for stating the blatantly obvious. No wonder the mere mention of your site draws chuckles and snickers.
People hold Adequacy with the same regard they do Geekizoid. That's nothing to be proud of.
Again, YHBT. The fact that you're still arguing about my sig proves my point perfectly. Now go away and play with your toys.
And what do you suppose the average Saudi is going to do, shove a rocket up a camel's ass and fly all the way to the moon?
C'mooon, these people think AK-47's and rocket launchers are the highest tech weaponry out there.(believe it or not, they actually do). What makes you think they're going to have the kind of resources it takes to put something in orbit?
The article mentions that the system ships with it's own cooling liquid, however they failed to mention exactly what the liquid was.
Do you suppose it's distilled water? Regular water? Not even water at all?
The original review gave the case an extremely low performance score. Koolance have since revised their design, and from the look of things, the guys at Tom's Hardware are more than pleased with the final result.
From the article:
"There's a first time for everything - since our last review of a barebones system from Koolance, the company has moved mountains. But let's not get ahead of ourselves - in our article "Barebones PC Cooling Tower: A Showy Case From Koolance", we pointed out a slew of weak points in the barebones system. One of the main problems was the insufficient cooling performance of the system, which was caused by grave design errors and the use of inappropriate components. In response, the manufacturer removed the "old" system from the market and replaced it with a new one. The result? All of our gripes were heeded and problems were solved. Even our critical lab engineers were delighted by the new Koolance system..."
Have you ever played with a 3d rendering program called Blender?
This is a very good substitute for people who don't want to pay five grand for 3D Studio Max, and I've found it to be a very worthy contender. I've used it a lot in my own professional work.
Sure, there's a steep learning curve. But that's the way it is with any program of that complexity.
Best of all, it's free.
Ahh, but would such a game even run well on the X-box?
Optimizing games for existing effects is one thing, but writing your game to take advantage of new effects on top of old ones takes a lot of dedication on the part of the cpu. What the gpu can handle, the cpu might not be able to. Especially if it is an Intel Celeron equivilant.
I definitely agree that new games need to be written to take advantage of the on-board memory. Remember the days of Quake 1 where the default game would allocate a small amount of ram to the game (Wasn't it 16? I don't recall) when you had 128+ sitting around doing nothing?(I did, at least). It was only with command line paramaters that I could allocate more.
I don't think X-box users have the convenience of a command line. But, since the X-box uses a unified memory architecture, this shouldn't even be an issue and I'm just rambling. Late night benders tend to do that to me.
In any event, this is one example of how PC-native games probably won't run well on the X-box unless they're ported specifically. There's no sense in having all that extra hardware sitting around if no one's going to use it.
I'll bet you like the way l'il boys feel even more than Wil does.

That system looks really nice, however it's missing one thing in the front panel: Firewire ports.
