  1. Tokyo/Detroit or Riyadh on Hybrid/Electric Vehicles: Should I Buy? · · Score: 0, Flamebait

Everyone is making a big deal about the fact that a hybrid's economic benefit is marginal if non-existent. But I ask you, wouldn't you prefer to give more of your money to a car manufacturer that is interested in developing more environmentally friendly vehicles, and who supports a democratic country, or would you rather give it to a bunch of oil barons that will use the money to promote terrorism?

  2. Did the company owe you any money? on Who Owns Source Code When a Company Folds? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I was in a similar situation. when my company went BK, I was owed about $6,500 back pay. As a result I am a creditor in the "company" and I have a lien on any "property" that the company owned. Basically, the source code for the app that I developed got forgotten about. Anyway, since I have this lien on the "property" I can "confiscate" it and use it as my own until the someone who owns the code pays off my lien. Anyway, I still have my source code, although I've been unsuccessful in making any money on it. I hope this helps!

  3. Re:You can do it now. on FCC Approves Media Consolidation · · Score: 1

This is patently not true. Unlike an independent radio station, that can broadcast copyrighted material without any license to the content, broadcasting copyrighted music over the 'net violates the DMCA. Therefore, you would not only need to setup your own station, but you would have to create the content as well. And then of course there's the matter of promotion and costs...

    Both excellent security companies.

  5. Rich = Perfect, Poor = flawed on Designer Babies, Version 1.0 · · Score: 1

Has anyone wondered how much this procedure costs? Who paid for it? Will this child's health insurance be cheaper by virtue of the fact that there is a "guarantee" that they will not develop alzheimers? It this becomes widespread we might be seeing:

--Rich potential parents paying for screening, and getting better heathinsurance rates for thier children.

--Poor parents giving birth to high risk children, who can't be insured, or couldn't afford health insurance because of the increased premiums.

--Research into curing these illnesses being neglected or forgotten, since all of the patients that could pay for treatment will have been born without the gene that causes the disease. The disease being "erradicated" from the population that "matters"

--Lastly, by filtering out genes from the gene pool,we run nthe risk of elimiating the flexibility of the species to adapt to changing environmental conditions. Remember, the gene that causes sicle cell anemia, also provides some protection against malaria. If only the beautiful people are born, the wealth of "ugly" genes will be lost, and mankind's destruction will be only one disease or environmental change away.

Besides, isn't it more fun to make the baby the old way? ;)
