Well these are pilot projects with a very specific function - clean up factory emissions. Other setups will have different net carbon emissions, of course.
In that, they study open ponds full of salt water to get their numbers. The CO2 comes from the air directly, same way a field of grass works. Different project, different goals - different carbon footprint.
As for the pressed biomass left over, it makes fantastic fertilizer.
Really, the entire algae/biodiesel thing is just organic solar. Same way the rest of nature works, pretty much.
Seems like every time you turn on the news you can't help but see some airline going broke.
Personally I don't mind much. I'm hoping we see a resurgence of train travel. Easier, cheaper, and somehow a more romantic way to travel.
Take an airplane when you're in a hurry. Take a train when you want to have a nice easy experience traveling. Looking out the windows at the cows, sleeping with the click-clack of the rails passing under your car - that kind of a thing. I know that's not the current situation today but I'd like the future to look like that.
I'd happily tack on an extra day or two to my vacation if it meant I could enjoy dinner in a nice dining car. And not get frisked and scanned and have my orange juice confiscated by airport security when I go to board.
I seem to recall reading somewhere that Harvard has never been hit with one of these RIAA money grabs. Most probable reason being that there is enough talent there to rip the RIAA to tiny ribbon sized shreds in front of the judge, which would pretty much end their extortion racket.
So, does that still hold true? Anybody at Harvard ever been hit with one of these?
Google found me this emulation site. So emulation seems possible. Dunno about a Mac port, but people are writing code to emulate.
As for getting the data off, my first idea was to try to find a full system off of eBay. Then you'll need to write something to pull raw sectors off the disks. And a terminal program - something to push the info down a serial line. On the other side hook up your Mac and write something there to collect the data.
I'm doing something similar with an old Amiga 2000 and my old programming projects.
Bush turned this from a humanitarian offer to help into part of his "exporting freedom" routine. He wants to have our Navy set up there. He mentions political change.
With what we've been up to lately, can you blame these people for saying no? I can't.
I'd say that's the part that makes this impressive. Re-entry is known to be pretty darn warm. And heat will scatter magnetic domains. Heat up a magnet - it's not a magnet anymore.
Either this HD was in the center of a ball of stuff and didn't get very hot, or Seagate has some seriously awesome engineering going on.
If they make it something reasonable, they get to collect license fees. Money for no work. If they use your idea they get nothing except respect from the community.
How will MADD know if I'm playing any of the other driving missions in the game...but I'm drunk in real life while doing it? Surely that must be worse than simulated drunkenness.
Or for that matter what if I buy a copy of Gran Turismo and a six pack?
FWIW, I'll betcha the fine folks at Rockstar put a drunk driving mission in there on purpose and leaked the info to MADD themselves. They definitely know how to capitalize on free publicity.
The moment you have kids, what you love no longer matters anymore.
I don't know. Having Dad be a miserable prick all the time isn't good for the kids either. Life is about balance. Too much of anything is a problem.
As for the poster - haven't you ever heard of a hobby? Suck it up, make the good money, do your job. Then come home and have a hobby.
Me? I'm a programmer. For a hobby I'm a metalworker. It's as far from programming as you can get. Heat metal - smash it with a hammer. Make beautiful things. Very therapeutic. Come home from work, have dinner, then every so often wander out into the garage and fire up the forge.
And it does my family worlds of good too, because I'm cheerful pretty much all of the time.

Here's an interesting study.

Someone must not be reading the news much lately.

From CO2. That's why they're using algae as smokestack scrubbers.
It pulls greenhouse gasses out of the air for photosynthesis, same way larger plants do.

The World is our Beta Tester.
Bad form to respond to one's post, but I've found more links:
Here's an emulator that has disk copy utilities with it.
This link should find you mac emulators.

...humans need water to live. So go stick your head in a bucket of it.
Too much of anything is as bad as too little.
Watch the video of our "offer".

Give them three pirated Britney Spears albums. Apparently that's worth about $110 million according to the RIAA.
Why start playing by the rules now?

It's 1 divided by the square root of the permittivity of free space e0 multiplied by the permeability of free space u0. Link here.
That's why the speed of light is different in different materials. Differing permittivity and permeability.
Interestingly enough, you can use e0 and u0 to calculate the impedance of free space. It's approximately 377 ohms.

I know which one they're going to pick.
Yeah, right. Tell me another one.
And somebody pass the cheetos, willya?
Well let him know about it then. Don't post as AC. Respond to his posts with well thought out rebuttals.
Or you can hide behind AC and make ad hominem attacks and offer no data, facts, debate, or anything substantial to support your position.
Or could it be that childish personal attacks are all you've got?
AC has a very good point. Go virtual. Less hardware = less power consumed.
When you're right, you're right.
it's so obvious that he doesn't bother to explain himself. It's both off-putting and tough to understand. If it's too smart for you in here, head back to Digg.
Here's hoping Hans Reiser charges him $699 for the idea. He can prove prior art, too.

Honestly I've learned more about metalworking at this site than my local SCA folks. It's a pretty great resource if you're still interested.
Yup. I'm a lifer - been in 10 years or so already. =)
Midrealm!

Isn't that what they make chairs and ladders out of?
But here it is. Remeber this?
Fire bad, beer good, napster bad!
