This is certainly interesting to see that Open Source is being more widely accepted in the developing world. It bring to question, in what manner developers of programs that are not open source will attempt to combat this. Microsoft's recent pricing of Windows OS for only $40 in Thailand is an example of these attempts. Will this attempt by Microsoft really have an impact in Thailand, or is this simply an act of desperation? I wonder what the current impact is of computers running Linux in Thailand?
Precisely! I recently purchased a computer for a family member who will only use it for some basic uses such as word processing, email, etc.
Anyways, when I was out shopping at one store, the sales guy stated "This machine will be on sale the day after Thanksgiving, although it's only 2.6 GHZ..." ONLY?!?! What in the hell? Anyways, I ended up getting the person a Thanksgiving special at a different store (but it also was only 2.6 GHZ;)
Took the damn thing back to their house and a whole bunch of the extended family was there, it being the holidays and all. They check out the computer and they are all, "Nice computer, only 2.6 GHZ though..." What in the hell! These people are only going to use it for email and stuff. I couldn't believe the reaction I was getting from these people!
At least the person who received the computer appreciated it though. Sorry for the rant but I was amazed at this prevalent outlook on processor speed. Has anyone else run into this?
On one hand, I could lament the "loss" of an internet mainstay of whom many of us were aware of. On the other hand, webcams have become so overdone. Every teenage girl and her best friend have one. Consequently, this is played out. So who cares? I'm sure "Jenny" has realized she has better things to do than pose on a webcam.
On the other hand, perhaps Jenny's subscriptions were dropping as creepy men were finding other girls' webcams to ogle. Maybe Jenny realized that her extended 15 minutes of fame are finally up. No disrespect though. She certainly seems to have garnered all the attention she could from a webcam.
Remember the coffee cam? Now that was cool. Wasn't it at MIT?
True there are few good games out for the Ngage but I was pleased with the graphics of Red Faction, and Tony Hawk. Still, it seems quite overpriced and two games does not make for a good library.
Perhaps it would just be better to have a cheap cell phone and a gameboy advance.
One advantage of the Ngage is the bluetooth multiplayer gaming. FPS deathmatch in class!
Is that starkly different from the people who purchase "pay per view" movies?
The ultimate factor there is convenience. I agree with you however and would rather go to the store and rent for cheaper. Still there is certainly an audience for this feature. This is nothing new.
As a Computer Engineering student, I have found a LOT of great paid internships still out there. This may have to do with my previous experience with prior internships and therefore may not be indicative of the norm. While my internships have never been with as many benifits nor with as high of pay as Microsoft, I am still pleased with what I have been able to obtain.
This year I had several offers but I ultimately chose NASA.
I wonder if this will get modded down as flamebait by other students who did not get any offers? Oh well.
How can something as trivial as this become a patent?
Exactly. I think I will patent the way people look at porn and see how well that passes the patent office.I mean, how can you patent some things that are so trivial or perhaps intuitive?
This is certainly needed. If I am going to purchase a CD, I don't want to buy a crippled version of the media. Fortunatley, I have not run into this yet and I hopefully can aviod it a little easier via this.

Just what the Slashdot community loves, this program is open source :)
;)
However, this looks better than Tux Racer.
Happy Birthday, Google!

So, this means you should take a break in between taking time to look at all of the pr0n :)
