Nobody is broadcasting in HDTV? All major networks are broadcasting things in HDTV. Hook up an antenna. Here are the following shows I can watch _just tonight_ on my HDTV:

    ABC: Tarzan, Alias, The Practice
CBS: Eduction of Max Bickford, Rosa Parks Story
    Fox: Simpsons, Malcom, Bernie Mac
    NBC: Winter olympics
    UPN: Buffy
and more.. movie channels HBO, Showtime, etc.

Unless you live in the boonies, most major networks are indeed broadcasting in HDTV OTA. HDTV programming is available via satellite for DirectTV and Dish network. HDTV is available via cable for those with certain cable companies (time warner and a few others).

Next time you post something, try getting a clue and stop karma whoring with your political rhetoric.

Face it, Linux is not a user friendly as XP (no decent games, severely lacking decent desktop software), and is not as stable or scalable as Solaris as a server.

Linux is a college software project gone wrong. Who has ever known anything useful to come from fucking FINLAND! It's current niche is teenage script kiddies who want to pirate MP3's, illegally bypass patents and copyrights, and turn their parent's PC into an elite "server".

Dude, I'm running an IRCbot. I'm so cool. I can impress all my highschool friends with stories of how I hack people's credit cards.

A week doesn't go by where there isn't a security hole in redhat or debian. The difference is slashdot has a vested interest in protecting the repuation of linux.

Debian security holes so far this month:
DSA-110: CUPS - buffer overflow (today)
    DSA-109: faqomatic - cross-site scripting vulnerability (today)
    DSA-108: wmtv - symlink vulnerability (Feb. 7th)

    Redhat security holes this month:
ucd-snmp: Remote exploit, DOS (Feb. 12th)
kernel: crash the kernel with a malformed packet (Feb. 5th)
uucp: ability to change UIDs (Feb. 4th)

Slashdot's FUD and bias is mildly amusing at times, but I hope nobody really takes this site seriously anymore.

I agree - Linux is not ready for the desktop either. I completely agree about the desktop - I have similar issues. Part of the problem is that the Linux GUI is based around such an old technology - X windows. It really wasn't meant to run on modern hardware.

Even on a 900mhz athlon, it cannot keep up with my typing. Compare this to Windows (any version), and it's a joke. Staroffice is another failure of the unix community - it is incredibly slow because it's written in java. Whatever you do, don't try to run mozilla and staroffice at the same time. Then you'll see why the Linux virtual memory handling is so shitty.

So what are the alternatives? X windows isn't cutting it. Berlin?? Bwahaa.

I will stick to MS windows and MacOS9.
