    TOKYO (Dec. 2, 2002) - Federal Express Corporation ("FedEx Express") and General Motors Corp ("GM") announced a joint program to advance fuel cell technology by conducting the first commercial test of a fuel cell vehicle in Japan.

    Wouldn't that make their name expand to "Federal Express Express"? Is that like KFC chicken?

    How doing this faster can make the computer crash is a bit of a mystery to me. (I can't think of a single program with a speed dial, and above a certain speed, the computer crashes... ;-))

    Have you poked around in your BIOS recently? :P

    You can't be serious, if the average software engineer could type out just 10-20 lines of code in a day, a program like Apache, or the Linux, kernal, or windows would have taken a team of 100 programmers decades to write.

    A good software engineer should be able to write at least a few hundred lines of code in one full day

    I call bullshit. That claim dosn't make any sense whatsoever, especialy if it's just software.

    It seems (to me) Like he just threw together a bunch of MS APIs (such as the microsoft speach API for 'Phoebe', the windows media API for the DVD player and video players, probably even used IE to display pages).

    At most he threw in an intelegent caching routine, such as pre-downloading linked pages or something. I also don't think he wrote 780kloc

    It means no regulation. You can do whatever you want in the 2.4 and 5ghz range, as long as you don't go over a certan power range.

    Layer 3, at least as I read it refers to the layer in the physical network stack. He means that all internet trafic would be encrypted, rather then application spesific uses like SSH and https.

    Anyway, even if you did create a distributed project, you would only be able to decrypt one internet session from one person. Not everyone's traffic. It would be entirely pointless.

    Well, who is going to pay $100 to offer a service for free?

    I guess this is probably going to go more towards pay sites, but if they really want to build a world of total wi-fi coverage, what they should do is build protocols that allow devices to see prices to get on the various Networks that surround them and allow for quick, instant payment for bandwidth used.

    A hacker shouldn't be responsible for costs incurred in getting a new security system. I mean, it's something they needed before they were broken into, but just weren't aware of it.

    Like, if someone broke into a car and stole a CD, they shouldn't need to pay for a new Car Alarm (or something)

    Cracking refers breaking copyright protection, hacking refers to breaking into computer systems, as well as coding, using a computer in an advanced way. At least, that's the way it's always was until ESR began his ridiculous, orwelian redenotation campaign.

    I mean, really. Does anyone remember hearing a Hacker referred to as a "Cracker" before a few years ago when ESR began his attempt to change the meaning of the words?

    Reality isn't defined by what you would like it to be, people, and words are defined by their usage.

    Well, and of course there are other things like loading programs and stuff that gets speed up a lot.

    One intresting thing: I gut a duron 1.2ghz to replace my 600. That's twice as fast. When I installed it I was amazed at the speed. Then I burnt it out, when I moved back to the 600, I didn't notice anything at all.

    That's why if you ever go to a magazine's or newspaper's office, you will never see any layout or photowork being done on PC's

    What, the colors look like shit when they're printed on newsprint anyway. Besides, color correction tools do exist for the PC, they are just not as widely used.

    Well, I would imagine that someone who's job actually involved taking pictures would take a lot of them and look for that 'perfect' one. Ever see 'behind the scenes' documentaries about fashion photographers? They have cameras like machine-guns. "*SNAP-SNAP-SNAP-SNAP* gorgeous baby! *SNAP-SNAP-SNAP-SNAP*".

    Anyway, why do you say that you should get a mac if you want to make 'great art'? PCs are just faster all around, the only reason to get a mac is because you like the interface more. It won't make you more productive unless you're so inflexable as to be unable to uable to function in a slightly diffrent environment.
