    Dude, this was the first thing that I opened up when you challenged me. No, there is not a completion of arithmetic required for Turing completeness, but it should be apparent that all arithmetic can be calculated by a Turing-complete machine. I realize no one will read this, but holy crap you're stupid. Yes, turing complete machines can do arithmetic, so can non-turing complete machines, like the computer you're using (limited memory). Or a DFA.

    control structures != Turing complete. You can have loops as long as they have constant maximum bounds. Whatever it happens to be that you mean when you say "Nand is Turing complete" it makes no sense when you actually typed it. "turing-complete (for arithmetic)." makes no sense at all. WTF? Someone failed CS 315.

    What I mean is, all of the components of LAMP are interchangeable. Linux/FreeBSD/Solaris/Windows/MacOS, Apache/IIS/Zeus/Tomcat, MySQL/PostgreSQL, and finally PHP which can't be replaced directly, but you can use anyone of many programming languages witch are also free, like ruby on rails, mod_perl, JSP, etc.

    Nothing wrong with The L and the A but MySQL+PHP (which run fine on windows and IIS, by the way) is the visual basic of the early 21st century. A shitty, limited system for people who don't really know how to program. These LAMP fascists are just trying to shoehorn everyone into using their crap by making it seem like they're part of some integrated system when really the last two components are cheap 'good enough' hacks for people who don't know what they're doing.

    And really, there is zero difference between LAMP and WAMP, I've never had trouble getting open source PHP/MySQL programs to run on windows servers. There's nothing Linux or Apache specific at all.

    If you're right, and adding PostGRE is the trivial task that you imply, then it should be a snap, and WordPress will be the better for it. It's easy to make a system support multiple databases when starting from scratch. It can be more difficult if the code is already written and hacked up with 'mysqlisms'.

    Why not support for PostgreSQL? How hard can it possibly to write code that supports more then DB? It's unbelievable that almost no blogging software supports a real RDBM.

    If you're running a tiny virtual server, you don't want to bother running two RDBM. Bleh.

    Unlike drugs, or kiddy porn where the mere possession is a crime, copyright infringement is only a tort if it can be proven that you transferred the files to someone else. In any event, it's very possible that her box could have been a zombie, rooted by some bored teenager looking to file share without risk.

    In the end, once you know one OOP language, you know 95% of what you need to work in any OOP language - so if you That might not be true of like, scheme and Haskell, but it's definitely true of Java and C#. The syntax is almost exactly the same, and the APIs are very similar too (just with different names, basically)

    The majority of the world is using that particular worthless operating system. If you program for that platform, you may want it available for testing.

    Even more people are running Java capable OSs. In fact, it's a strict superset.

    The languages are almost exactly the same. If you know one, you basically know the other. Java with generics is more complicated right now, so I'd say you should learn that.

    Also, while there are C# implementations on Linux, you won't get Microsoft's custom API, while you will get Sun's standard API if you use java on Linux. So your Java programs will work both on Linux and Windows (and any other OS). That's the great strength of Java over C#

    So basically, the languages are the same, it only depends on what API you want to use, and Sun's JRE is much, much more portable. (you definitely won't be working with the mono libraries in your C# class)

    Somehow, I find it absolutely absurd that a person who lives in the bush somewhere in Central Africa is going to Google "manual water purification systems", whip out a credit card, and have one sent to them from Amazon. Or potentially find a web page written by another bushman describing the best way to skin a wildebeest.

    Could just be the kids just did as told because humans in general (and especially children) follow orders unless they have a good reason not too. In fact, I bet that you would see the same results with adults if you didn't tell them that they could change the process.

    Does anyone really think they won't get their rebates? I suppose sometimes you might have problems (i.e. two different rebates both require original proof of purchase) The fact is their friggin' annoying. Who wants to deal with envelope stuffing, etc? They take advantage of people's laziness and it's irritating for people with a life.
