They're changing their license, even though XFree contains GPL code.
They might well be writing FREEWARE (don't confuse gratis with freedom, there) but I think they probably would care if their code wasn't being used by anywhere near as many people as it was previously.
GNU/Linux wouldn't be without a graphical desktop, there's a wealth of projects out there.
From what I can see of the license, all it would require would be for NVIDIA to include 4.4 sources and do a.configure && make && make install as part of their install, if they want to be so stupid.
As ever, the current drivers would continue to work, and if they work well... you wouldn't *have* to upgrade.
What are the chances someone will take 4.3 and fork it, and carrying on development as free software?
Hopefully, eventually, XFree would realise how much they borked their userbase, and stop this sillyness.
I'd like to bet that a good proportion of their userbase comes from Distros, and if the distros drop 4.4, they're going to be hit rather badly.
I'm no XFree86 expert, but surely any changes committed by developers prior to the license change will be still under the previous license and therefore a good starting block for any forking.
Semantic Web is a interesting progression. Maybe hopefully more sites will start to use better markup on their websites now. A lot of W3C standards seem overlooked by some pretty big sites.
Surely it's about time for Slashdot to go XHTML+CSS?
What is GNU if it's not an operating system? I consider it to be one.
It's far more of an operating system than Linux.

I never had, and never want to have, a C64... However, I believe it was the same as the BORDER command in better BASIC. It was definitely colour related. I remember seeing it in lots of Osborne type in books from the library.

I think that's much more true in Europe, perhaps.
Most Americans I know, had their first experience on Apple II machines, and later, Macintosh.
My first experience of any computer at all, was a Tatung Einstein, which belonged to a neighbour of mine. About a year later, I began tinkering with a BBC Master at school. In 1990, I got an Amstrad CPC 464 and my school got a couple Acorn Archimedes A3000s. I still have my CPC (heavily upgraded) and a few others I've bought over the years.
It was amazing some of the stuff I created back then, as a child of about 10. I had the beginnings of my own assembler, some really cool GUI tools and even a platform game I started writing.
Now I work doing web R&D, accessibility and usability stuff, and I've just realised how much I miss the old days.
I ordered one from the UK Apple Store at the same time I got iLife 04 and iPod AppleCare (which I've already claimed on -- new headphones, remote and firewire cable. These claimed items arrived the next day.) - the keyboard is pretty cool really, at first I thought I would maybe not need it, but it really encourages some creativity and it's a lot easier to get what you want out of it.
Now Bill, there was really no need to post that anonymously was there?

Please take a look at http://www.freedesktop.org/

Aren't the NVIDIA drivers non-free anyway?

In Soviet Russia, Free Software caters for your whishes, Moneypenny!
Nice... local company too (Paignton, Devon..)
I can start to back up my Mac now.
If you want to do SQL Server stuff on your Mac without paying a lot...
This is your friend
Works pretty nicely. I've stopped doing ASP/SQL server stuff now, but when I did... it was good.
That page is full of broken links, and it's a little old.
http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/netboot.html works for me.
Ah, sorry...
Give this a go:-
dabs.com
25 quid.
I don't think you can damage a DVD by putting it on top of another DVD. I've certain had them stacked on a spindle and had no problems.
DVD-ROM drives are pretty cheap now aren't they? Certainly here in the UK, they are. I reckon you'll find one for $40.
You're right, but what's to stop a GNU/Linux vendor from selling such a DVD?
It's easy for everyone to play the bandwidth argument, but the parent never suggested it was for download, just that it was available.
I, for one, welcome our AC Beowulf overlords.
n tent/livecd.php should help if/when this guy gets /.d?)
(I've just found out about freecache.org - does this mean that http://freecache.org/http://www.frozentech.com/co
It was offline, I think it probably still is.
Just do a Google Image Search on 'Goatse' you'll see why shouldn't have.
It's a shame to see it go... now what am I going to offer to my enemies as links?
http://print.google.com/ - it's quite amusing too.
Nah, you got Goatse.cx!
YOU TEH WINNER!
Um...
Unless I'm going crazy, it's on:-

The G5 Video - http://www.apple.com/powermac/video/ has someone from Pixar, talking about how great they are... and showing RenderMan on OS X.
Spoke to someone in Microsoft Support today, they told me it was less than 1% of the OS code.
Playing it down, obviously.
I personally, have no interest in the source, just like I have no interest in the OS.

I'd recommend it to anyone.
My ex was like that. Thankfully the girl I'm with now, will happily give head as much as I want it.
