Ok, we are talking very low power here and everyone has seen the effect mobile phones can have on transmitter/reciever circuits. I havn't bothered to think about it too much (/me lazy:) but having someones phone on the table would have to play havoc with the SNR (signal to noise ratio) of the system? Any thoughts?
Can't say I'd disagree, we're... layed back (not lazy) & love our public holidays (here in Brisbane we still have a public holiday when the show/fete/festival is on).
I played BG, BGII & BGII-TOB all in one big long sequence over a few months. At the end of it, it was hard to differentiate what happened in real life and in the game over that period. Except for the magic n all:)
... would microsoft have the dominance it has today?
If people didn't have access to pirated versions of windows since day 1, how many average home users could have afforded it? I'm not talking about the advanced users I'm sure you all are, but the average mum & dad & 2.5 kids that have just bought a computer to write some letters up or send some email. These families use outdated hardware running old prepackaged software until a friend lends them a newer version of windows or msoffice or whatever to remain compatible with work or school. Without this pirated software would these children be exposed to the overpriced software and become reliant on it in later years?
I propose that maybe just maybe, piracy aids microsoft in making the average joe reliant on their product so in later years when they can afford it, they dont even consider any other competitors. After all, as someone has already said, its not the big businesses that give ms their profits using these codes, is it?
You know your probably right, as a developer if I dont like the default I like to get full control of every aspect using a nice text based config file which may take 30 mins to learn about but lets you do amazing things. I'm guessin that a bit different to most people everyone seems to wish to convert from windows, either way, each to their own, but for me more options the merrier!
Sport plays a dramatic role in the lives of all Australians however indirect it may be. My school consisted of two 'popular' groups, the footballers (rugby union) and their entourage, and the alternate types. The football group was popular for all the typical reasons I guess but it was the dislike of sport that made the alternative group popular. As sport is a way of life in Aus. and is pushed quite alot by parents and schools, it innevitably becomes 'cool' to dislike it. In this way when it came to PE and sport it was both cool to partake or not, making it pretty easy to fit in or lay low of any unwanted actions. So all in all I think the Aussie attitude & way of life has adapted to fit most people in, well where I'm from it seems that way. I hope others get to cruise through highschool with as much fun as I did well into the future.
Throughout university I had a friend who prided himself in being able to build the best inanimate, non functional circuits in the shape of dogs, cats, mice, people, you name it. I tried once build an insect but it just wasn't in my blood. I recall his Digital Dog v1.0 actually being used to pickup, ahh the days...
I havn't used opera for a long time, however it has always had features I found to be ahead of its time. I first used it years ago when I couldn't afford big downloads and found it to be a great companion browser to IE (mozilla wasn't around & well netscape...). Its speed wasn't the only thing that attracted me but its tabs and easy picture/java blocking allowed easy perusal through the most 'popupiest' warez sitez. It may not support all the plugins and may not render all sites perfect, but it can be used as quite a powerful tool in the right environment. Just make sure u got a different browser handy for all the eye candy.
After finding the differences between octave and matlab too much as pointed out I tried finding the unix/linux version. The student version is only sold in the US and the full version was going to cost more than a car. So I got desperate and with minimal tweaking found matlab Student Edition 5.3 ran quite happily, though slowly, under linux with WINE. Just another option for those on a budget:)

Hmm, how long until theres a new codec (or modification) that makes it redundant? Just a question.
What else are they gonna do with the money? Spend it on the people? ha ha ha ha
Thats perhaps why I stopped using it :) Oh yeah and the ads :)

linux.box.sk
They may not all be the best but as a physics student some can be kinda cool to play around with.
