yes the question was about laptops oh as someone else allready mentioned you can install another video card ... into the pcmcia slot

this is interesting ... the M4 has multi monitor support under win2k. i actually found contradicting stuff in the win2k help files if the feature is supported at all. since none of the two laptops i tried worked (trident cyberblade and ati M1) i assumed that it just does not work under win2k. well this paints a better picture for WinNT based OS's. Now the question is if Linux can top this :-)

  4. RH = Software * 0,0000001 + Employees * 10000000 on Warnings to Red Hat about AOL Buyout · · Score: 1

The point is that RH is not so much about their software but about the people that work for RH. This is the reason why investing tons of money in companies that develop software that is merely a year ahead or even totaly open source is quite dangerous. Anyone can quickly catch up if they throw enough money at it. But even more dangerous is the fact that a bunch of employees leaving for whatever reason: starting their own company - this is usually done by your best employees so it hurts the most or better job opportunities - this can include better money or ethical reasons exactly those ethical reason could bite AOL if they do end up buying RH ... alot of the people will not want to work for AOL even if they are not directly working for them. And at that point RH will just be their 1) software , 2) the brand name and 3) the established infrastructure. 1) is not worth all that much since their software is mostly open source 2) i doubt that AOL's audience knows much about the brand 3) that might be worth something ... but I don't think that this accounts for enough

it would have the advantage of not frying your brain (as much) as some scientists fear cell phones do anyways the entire design is not really optimized for holding it against the ear and the design was chosen to have a more desktop pc like screen ratio .. probably to make it more "web resolution" compatible so I think their choice was made with good reasons

well you may not get a trademark on commonly used words ... the problem is that so many new words come up and become standard use in such short time these days the usual procedure was to check the "Duden" which used to be uptodate enough so if a word was common use (some words actually became common use after being included in the "Duden") would appear in the "Duden" well obviously this does not work anymore and so as many procedures it was to be reevaluted in this day and age also when you register a trademark the trademark office (or whatever it is called) does not check existing trademarks. it is your responsibility as the trademark owner to ensure that nobody registers a trademark that violates yours. so you actually have to hire someone to keep checking new registrations to ensure that nobody violates your trademark this gets even worse with the overlapping nationals and european trademarks

lets get a couple facts straight: 1) Gravenreuth often acts without having the "violated" party actually hiring him, which is fine by german law 2) in this case Gravenreuth was hired by the violated party 3) Gravenreuth send SuSe a letter in Okt. or Nov. saying that they may not include any software that violates their trademark but Suse did not feel like doing aynthing about it 4) Crayon as well as Gravenreuth where aware that the program was not part of Suse 7.3 (but there still is a link in some Koffice Menu for the app with the name Krayon) 5) the goal was to prevent SuSe from including a program with the name in any future releases 6) Suse 7.3 was actually never stoppped 7) Crayon did have an interest and the thing was settled without any license fees or other payments

Indeed Gravenreuth is also the same guy that went hunting against people using the explorer name in germany (even microsoft) Basically he is making a living from hunting down trademark violations. In Germany you can do this without even having the company whos trademark is violated telling you to do so.

  10. opensource ... will it run on its own? on Open Source And The Obligation To Recycle · · Score: 1

well eventhough i do a fair amount of work in the opensource world and make use of a fair number of opensource products i see some problems with it the question is what will happen in the long run we all know that opensource can create some pretty amazing software the only area where it seems to lack abit if with documentation and interface design (and i think this will always remain this way) but this can be fixed by commercial companies that specialze in just that so what happends then? the only thing that will let you succeed in this world then will be being the best in marketing and winning customers ... my company was build by 3 programmers .. we create very good software and struggle on the marketing ... right now the superior quality of our software is the only reason we are not broke if we were to opensource our software a bunch of marketing guys with a bit of technical skill could pick it up and crush us (or atleast prevent us from ever hoping to succeed with out company) anyways orphaned products should be given a new home somehow ... and i also think that getting a copyright is not just a right but a responsiblity ... society has given me the right to decide what to do with an idea!
