It's not the "not running Android" that's the problem, it's the locking it down that's a problem.

One could argue part of the reason Microsoft is floundering is they chose to be such ass-hats about signed/unsigned code and locking down boot loaders to begin with. At least if they had left it unlocked they would have gotten their "tax" even if they buyer chose to run Linux/Android, like my netbook.

Don't forget Ubuntu for phones is coming and there's some Firefox/Mozilla OS in the works too. Perhaps someone might want to experiment with those?

    There's a reason outsourcing works.

It's easier to hire a business in a county that doesn't have a government that throws hissy fits for not getting as much of an increase in budget as they wanted from the previous year to turn a profit than it is to hire locally, where you have to support said government through each employee.

  6. Re:Used in some hotels to run lobby screens. on Nintendo To Cancel Weather, News, and Other Built-In Wii Apps In June · · Score: 1

There's a simple answer to that.

Most weather sites have "stickers" and embedded options, and Wunderground even have an API for custom coding. The answer is to host a webpage somewhere and use the Wii's built in Opera browser to display the info from a custom page. You could go cheesy and just use an already made applet, or several from various sources, or make a custom page overall.

I'm actually going to miss this function, I didn't use it much and it showed nearby cities, but not mine., but I did use it on occasion when making plans and weather mattered. I use my desktop when I'm serious about it and my blue-ray player uses the same source the Wii did.

Also, even though Chumby is out of business the applets still work when you have one. It's possible to make flash work on a Wii if you put some effort into it and displaying a Chumby weather app seems like an easy fix.

I still don't find it useful. I have cable because getting the bundle actually made my Internet access cheaper. Anything with commercials in it is a waste of my time. Back when an hour long show had 54 minutes of non-advertising content TV was useful, now that an hour long show has 43 minutes of non-advertising content, maybe, and a reality show arguably has 0 and all the local news programs do is try to lure us to their website it's useless.

Back when we were in the 800 MHz to 1.5 GHz as common range I had a wish. I wanted something akin to a Pentium Pro 200 build on - at the time - modern processes for a simple server or put around machine. Nothing high performance, just reliable and low power.

The Atom was an answer to that wish, I love it. I've been an AMD guy most my life, but considering I hated ATI, I love nVidia, and Intel is producing great stuff like the Atom and playing nice with the FOSS community I'm about ready to become a turncoat. AMD processors of all types are great, but especially when it comes to mobile it's hard to find one with a good system around it.

I would like to see something like this used to re-diversify the Bison genome by cloning long dead individuals to make a healthy modern population. All you would have to do is inseminate the existing herds with the old code to expand the base. If it were up to me I would do away with the beef industry in the US and replace it with a Bison industry keeping only some dairy cows when it comes to European bovines. It would increase the health level in the nation quite a bit, even if they were eating McDonald's bison burgers instead of McDonald's beef burgers.
