    I thought that the way it worked was, CSIS spys on Americans, NSA and CIA spy on Canadians, then we trade? No one's investigating their own people, and everyone knows about who they want to know about...

    As long as there's a higher level of court that a judge may aspire to be appointed to, there's the possibility of political influence.

    I think people may actually be more likely to notice such things than, say 35 years ago... Look at advertising in the mid-60's. The corporations techniques were less sophisticated, because the consumers were too. People didn't automatically assume that they're being lied to and manipulated. Alot more people now want to know the source of information they're given, and weigh the statements against what said groups motives are. ("Got Milk" campaign -- bunch of businessmen who want to sell milk, maybe its really not the best thing ever... "Got Beer" campaign -- bunch of animal hugging zealots, maybe milk's not going to kill me like they say... "Microsoft's not evil" -- bunch of people with financial incentive to see MS bigger and richer, ignore totally)

    I think that this is what these researchers were seeing... If 6 and 7 year olds are spending a large portion of their time learning to use the computers in their classrooms, what are they spending less time learning? Basic math? (my sister, and many of her 4th grade classmates can't multiply or divide _at all_) Reading & Writing (I don't mean lit, I mean the ability to actually write words legibly)?

    That is to say the Americans were #3 this year... If we Canadians (which I thought was clear in my previous post) were to drop out of number one, there'd be alot of noise about it. Since this is now our 7th straight year at the top of this list, many Canadians are now fairly confident that we'll stay put...

    Well, I couldn't reasonably drive either a VW or 'vette since they're both awfully damned small, but that's not really the point...

    I would take a primer & rust pickup with a powerful (and reliable) engine (which is what I drive) over a nicely painted one with an underpowered engine. Obscene images on the paint would be a pretty big negative, but I don't think that compares well to 'beige box'

    basically, yeah, barring the obscene imagery (which isn't really appropriate for the analogy to work), I would take the more powerful vehicle over the nice looking one.

    Now that I think about it, I almost never left click a link... If a page is mostly content, I read, then close it. If it's full of links (front pages of sites mostly), I go through it, opening new windows...

    Uh, what consequences would that be? Are you implying that we're as underdeveloped as Zimbabwe? Could you provide some examples of areas that Canadian development is signifigantly less than American?

    Actually, I think they were #3 this year. Oh, and remember, for people making under $20K (the vast majority of the people I know), Canada has lower taxes. The main difference is that our rich our taxed, unlike the Americans. Of course, "USian" (eh?) culture is mostly Canadian citizens making movies and suppling their news...

The idea is to get many "anti-choice zealots" around the nation to each consider taking out one of the targets. This isn't like a serial killer who's crime spree stops after he's gunned down...

    Pretty boxes are all well and good, but should curtain-clashing or the lack thereof be more important than what's inside the little monstrosity? (I don't think they're pretty, I think they're gaudy. It's the seventies decor + translucency!!!)

    Is that unusual? My keyboard gets wet fairly often, and a few years back (486 66DX was a serious piece of hardware. How long ago was that?) I accidentally dumped about half a litre of coke onto my buddy's board. Didn't work while wet, but a couple hours later, everything was fine (well, a little sticky, but the cheap piece of junk was still inputing.)

    Is a stable orbit around Jupiter feasable? Galileo's not got a lot of fuel left for corrections, and there's some rather large objects whipping about the area that would presumably have enough of an effect to make corrections neccessary...

    There's a difference between knowing of a general tendancy for your product to be used for illegal activity and knowing x user is doing y illegal act with it. Otherwise, gun manufacturers wouldn't be able to make 'semi-automatic' assault weapons that are bought almost exclusively by criminals who know how easy it is to file off the 'semi' bit of the design.
