I agree on the editing right now but what if Nik decides to start developing Silver Efex for droid or Photomatix puts HDRPro on there. Right now the editing tools suck because they are put there by Nikon or Canon. With an Android OS you have a world of top notch developers adding new functionality.
Spoken like a real non-photographer. Do you really think that photographers are going to abandon the thousands of dollars of equipment just for a more compact size?
The only things I need a button or knob for are adjusting aperture and shutter speed. I have no problem with adjusting other things using a touch screen.
I have the eye-fi card and never use it. Far too slow to be of real benefit during a shoot. If the demo you saw did it straight away they were likely shooting at some unbearably low resolution. Makes much more sense to shoot tethered.
It's not about general purpose computer but I can think of a few advantages:
- Touch screen vs ridiculous amounts of buttons. - Easier ways to change settings that aren't changed frequently but are now buried in crazy hierarchical menus. - Time lapse photography (most DSLRs require an Intervalometer) - More complex control over slave flashes
A lot of photographers shoot tethered to a laptop as it is. This would hopefully eliminate that, too.
I am sure other serious photographers can think of dozens of other reasons. It's not that I want to browse the web on my camera.
Curious - why shouldn't education be free? Right now it is up through High School. Why not extend it to undergraduate degrees or trade school since it has become so hard to get a job without one and getting one saddles people with so much debt that they are struggling to get out from underwater 10 years later. Do you really have that much of an issue with educating people?
2 - This isn't a textbook. A news summary should never be written as if it was. You never see a summary with full quotes. They always have those lovely ellipses.
3 - Not biased because you don't say whether it is a good thing or bad thing that he surpassed the goal. It just states that he has support behind him.
4 - Inline hyperlinks are notoriously bad. They break the flow of the summary. The proper way, but obviously wouldn't work on slashdot, would be references listed in the end notes (like on wikipedia). Then people can read through the summary as it is and then decide which notes to follow. It also means that people don't have to hove over a link to see if it is a source they care to read. Obviously Forbes is a powerful source compared to an unknown blog.
It really was very poorly written. Here are some tips:
- Get rid of the sarcastic editorializing like "FunnyJunk's extortion... er... threat of defamation". It is immature and doesn't help the summary in anyway. Right or wrong, you should keep your opinions to yourself.
- Formatting is your friend. A wall of text does not make for an interesting read. As somebody pointed out you quoted too much of the linked article. People know how to read for themselves.
- Some of your wording is awkward. "with 8 days left he has only garnered 900% of his goal". It makes the 900% look like a typo for 90%. You should have said "Even with 8 days remaining he has already surpassed his goal by $xx".
- Less links. I think you could have summarized where things stand more concisely and then listed links that people can reference for more information.
Funny I had the opposite reaction. I couldn't stand Justin Long after those commercials. I cringed watching him in Live Free or Die Hard. Of course, he really is an awful actor whereas John Hodgman is a very funny comedian. You should watch his speech at TED - good stuff.
You can home school. It's actually the government that is supposed to be protecting us from stuff like this. Otherwise a good portion of American schools would be teaching creation instead of evolution. Supposedly 40% of Americans still believe in Creation.
There are classes on religion and that's where this stuff belongs. A class on science has no business talking about religion.
And really this whole freedom of religion is really just that the government shall establish no state religion. Not that religions should have free reign to do whatever the hell they want.
Having been to India narrowing a persons location to within 100 meters still could mean thousands of people. It's like when they tracked the long island serial killer when he was calling a victim's sister from Times Square. They had little chance of picking out the guy from the hundreds of other people there.
A pet program implies that it only benefits the person interested in it and a small constituency. Like a senator from idaho might have a project that gives tax credits for purple potatoes. That would be a pet project of his. Advancing society through science and research is everybody's project.
We should have balanced the budget during the last boom. Instead we went to war and cut taxes for the wealthiest people. Now we are in the shit and can't afford to. Best we can do is hold out until things get better and then hope that congress will get off its ass and actually do something.
How do you figure that? Did he create the deadlock in the Congress? You really need to look up what presidents can and cannot do before you spew such nonsense.
Why do you keep calling it my pet program? Do I look like a politician to you? And what makes you think that science and research is a pet program? You wouldn't be debating on this website with me if it wasn't for government spending on science and research.
Yes you usually want to grow the economy but you definitely don't want to shrink it now.

It's be more interesting when they can do this with DSLRs.

And I am sure that most iPhone are still version 3 or lower out there. What's your point?
The killer feature for Android is that it releases better, faster, and more feature rich phones several times a year.

Hope that helps.
It's about Aliens and Love.
And those commercials were awful on so many levels.

Don't most Android phones use USB connections while Apple uses a proprietary one?
Coors was founded in Golden Colorado in 1873 - Last I checked that's in the US.
Miller was founded in Milwaukee in 1855 - again in the US.
Anheuser-Busch was formed in 1869 and is based in St. Louis - yes that's still US.
Now are they owned by parent companies in other countries? Yes. But that doesn't change that they are American subsidiaries and make American beer.
I've been to Germany and this is far from the case. I had a hard time drinking anything here after coming back.
Yeah more people are being exposed to better beers and starting to realize just how bad most big-name American beers like Bud, Coors, etc. really are.
It's not his job (or sciences) to disprove the extraordinary things people claim. It is their job to prove it. That's just a basic concept.

Well if it means I can carry on a bottle of wine I bought instead of praying it doesn't explode on all my clothes then I might be ok with that.
